Steal west across the country Under moonlight soft and wet And let the dead of night hide you From things you can't forget Spend daylight in dark tunnels Where the demons rave One day closer every day To Tyler Lambert's grave Shoplift when you have to Keep your visor low And if your hunger shames you Never let them know Feel your sadness lifting Ride it like a wave That sets you gently down beside Tyler Lambert's grave Fall into a pattern Never get unstuck Anyone who can't relate Should thank God for his luck Young man in a yellow tie Hair gel in his hair No context for the picture Just kind of standing there Try to step outside the shadow Of your great catastrophe Dream all night of freedom Never wake up free

This is sadly what drugs do, Dana had a son and he never got over her death from drugs. So very sad he was so lost because of her. Don't do this to the ones you love.

I skipped over this side of The Mountain Goats for about a year and a half, and I'm just now getting into it. Already, I feel that this is one of the most direct and heartfelt and wonderful songs John's performed - not just of his cassette recording days, but in general. Like a lot of his other work is a lot more subdued and subtle in its meaning, if not direct with its phrasing - this is just a guy yelling about how much he loves Chino, subtlety be damned. It's beautiful and raw, and I don't think John's recorded anything quite like this since. Really, this song is just one of the greats - so firm and passionate and loud. I love it.

Probably the most powerful Mountain Goats song there is. Just listen to the longing in John's voice, pining to deliver a friendly greeting to his "friends" in Chino. He knows how hard it is down there, despite the farm fresh eggs, reasonably priced tract homes, convenient access to the 60 freeway, accredited medical care down at Chino Valley Hospital, a unified school system the likes of which you won't find elsewhere, and friendly people.

Matter of perspective. I lived in Chino for a while then moved one town over to Chino Hills, which despite being one of the richest communities in the state, sucks a bag of dicks. I miss Chino quite a lot.

You kidding? I love Chino. I love the cheap movie theater next to the Prehistoric Pets. I love Magnolia Junior High. I love Super Chili Burger. I even love Chino Valley Medical. Like JD says, we struggle just to get by. But the struggle's the most important part. Chino makes me feel like I'm slowly living.

If anyone was wondering. Chino is exactly like this song says it is. Its another lame suburban town you just feel like you're dying slowly in.

i figured so but i was making it clear to others that might be wondering that Chicago may have had SOME influence from the beginnings of ska but that they are like a jazz rock. for others that come wandering onto this video
@rm2kmidi

I was saying that if all you needed was horns to make it a ska band, then Chicago would be one by that definition. I'm saying that definition (the one held by the uninitiated) is bad definition and doesn't recognize the clear features of Ska music.

Chicago has no connection with Ska at all! they are like a jazz rock ensemble! just wish Peter Cetera would get back with them just ONCE like the old days!
