Lovely old postcards. I am researching my great grandfather who moved from Cornwall to Burnley about 1873. Two men were sent to Liskeard to recruit one for the mines and another Cotton Operatives. It seems my relation aged about 16 was persuaded to come to Burnley. He was a Tin Miner but census records at least show him as a Cotton Weaver in 1881 and later a loom overseer. I get the impression that large parts of Burnley's manufacturing sectors were on strike around this time. I'd appreciate any background information on Indùstrial unrest and how wide spread it was in Burnley.

Remarkable. The picture of Manchester Road is exactly where my family lived two doors up on the left in 1957. Cycled up and down that version steep road to school. The electric trams demonstrate how modern the transport was then. Prosperity built upon industry unlike today.

My grandparents have many relatives buried in the Burnley Cemetary. My great Gran was an adjudicator for the Royal Lancashire competitions for dairy and farm animals. Her name was Alma Sutcliffe. It would be wonderful to meet any relatives that would be interested with meeting me. My name is Cathy Mahardy. 720-249-8427.
