Other controllers can set range for pump rate in Hz and fan RPM to accommodate incremental elevation change. Can this controller act similarly? How if so? What does Alpine mode do exactly? I hear pump slow, but a fixed setting can't suit 1500 AND 3000 meters. I'm getting white stinky smoke at 1500m elevation with new 2km unit -- worked fine here for a few weeks -- and seems mix is the problem. Alpine mode didn't help. HELP thx and hny.

Love your instructions - definitely all works with our heater. However in auto mode ours just gets hotter and hotter - even when set on 14 it gets up to 25 on speed 2 or 3 and never cuts out. We have to manually turn it off then we wake up freezing and have to manually turn it on again. How do we get the thermostat to work correctly to keep the van at the set temperature ie ideally 18. The installer told us auto mode doesn’t work and to use manual mode but same issue even when on H1! Help - feel like we should have put a normal diesel heater in not a Chinese one. Anyone else have this problem?
@bretts0004
Жыл бұрын
Not sure as to why it doesnt step down to H1 speed, mine is installed in a 16ft poptop caravan and at times I need to shut it down as it gets too hot in the van as well. I have just been out in the desert where the temp outside was around 5 deg, what I was doing and it seemed to work ok was set the setpoint at 14 deg and run in Alpine mode, that seemed to keep the van at a more comfortable temp. I also in the past have had to open the jip windows in the poptop to keep it from getting too hot. They arnt a perfect heater when it comes to temperature control but it sure beats freezing.

No Tom sorry I havnt, what I will say that in a lot of instances these arnt wired up correctly which results in voltage related errors. Things like using the vehicle chassis as a return earth rather than direct connection to the battery neg, long cable runs, under sized cables and low batteries all can cause problems. These heaters need around 10amps to fire up so correct cable installation is important.

Hello mate, I've just got one and it's great, but it sounds to be running fast, so is there a way to use less fuel or is it just down to H1 -H6 and we can't "tune" it. Cheers
@bretts0004

This model no, all you can do is run it at H1 the lowest setting. You can however run it in Alpine mode which slows the fuel pump and drops the fire box temp down to around 160deg C.

Here's more info on fuels I've tried in the UK spec Vevo 5kW unit, with stock settings (with the controller-new type, late 2022, without the antenna signal indicator): Best fuel, most heat, Kerosene=heating oil=jetA1=paraffin Diesel, red or standard next best Brake fluid, DOT3 diluted with 10% petrol next best Old dirty engine oil diluted 20% with unleaded petrol next best Transmission fluid/old gearbox oil diluted with 10% petrol next (but smelly) Old gunwash thinners with 10% old engine oil to give it some lube properties not very good Old petrol with 10% old engine oil, also not very good. Acetone, brake and clutch cleaner (trichloroethylene- don't breath the smoke at all) or alcohol/meths don't really work at all. With all of the hydrocarbons, it is pretty obvious that there is way too much air running through the combustion chamber, because the exhaust pipe gets really hot (wasted heat). The combustion gas is being pushed straight out of the heat exchanger. If you choke the combustion air inlet a little, while still maintaining a lean and clean burn (at max fan speed), the exhaust temp drops while the heat exchanger actually gets a lot hotter. More time for the hot combustion gases to transfer the heat into the heat sink, as the burning gas is moving slower. Oh and throw away the little fuel filter they supply, as it doesn't filter anything! Get a proper fuel filter... If anyone knows how to crack advanced settings on the new controller unit (without antenna signal indicator), please post! 👍🏻😀🇬🇧
@linadsenoj

Great post. With these alternative fuels, do you run in manual heat setting or automatic temperature. If manual what H level works best? Definitely looking into old oil and petrol/diesel mix as potential fuel. We get lots of diesel contaminated with petrol.

@@maxv77 It should work on the tails supplied. If the leads are extended, larger cross section leads will likely be required. The black lead is short, so it is expected to be grounded to the vehicle chassis close to the unit. It will not run on a battery charger alone - the charger may not even supply any power, due to no battery voltage, or high voltage if it will charge into any voltage (generally really old chargers with little voltage and current control) The battery will hold the voltage steady, as long as the charger delivers a little more than 3A. At turn-off the battery will be charged to float voltage (14.4V for a flooded lead/acid battery, or thereabouts - but will depend on the battery chemistry). If mains power is available the battery and float charger is the best option for several reasons.

Hi guys a bit late !! But being a diesel mechanic in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 I may be able to give some insight into what is happening. The wires thay send with the heater for the battery connection are really not adequate for the amount of amps that the glow plug needs to fully cycle. Mine came with 16 gage wire this should only be used up to a maximum of a few feet . The farther your heater is from the power source ie. Battery or ac to DC converter you need to use heavier gage wire . You can Google a chart using supplied voltage , amperage required x length of wires needed. Hope this helps. Cheers.

To set a timer: First make sure the heater is turned off. Push the bottom left and right buttons at the same time. Use the on off button to select which digit you want to change. There are three digits. the first two digits are the hours as in up to 24 hours and the third digit is the minutes. If it read 09.4 hours that would be 9 hours 24 min. If it read 9.3 hours that would be 9 hours and 18 min. Whatever the third digit is multiply at times six and that will be how many minutes. Then press the upper left setting button to set how long the heater will run. Above the clock symbol will be a little red “off“ symbol. Same procedure with setting the amount of time the heater will run. Push the ok button to exit this screen then push the top left and top right buttons and the clock symbol and the red on will flash. Then the timer is set.
