Will this work on the 1700 series cartridges? Or, do I need one?

What I don't understand is why these geniuses didn't anticipate the cartridge separation and make a second tool that could screw in to their hook on to the pullar and pull the g0d dum thing out. I'll have to build my own d*** tool....... I should just return this d*** thing and just go back to Busta them up and yank and amount......build a second TOOL..... To pull the separated cartridge guts out you fools..... Really? I gotta make my own secondary tool to make your tool function....

Deltas tend to come apart though don't they? like the grey plastic part detaches from the white plastic part and leave the white part stuck in there.

Ya mean I am the only plumber around who went straight to his map gas torch assembly and purely massacred melted the hell out of those pain in the ass- stubborn-not wanting to come out old Delta shower cartridges that hadnt been removed ever before I was blessed to show up and attempt to do so. Yeah I was that dummy that would needle nose plier wiggle it with half a can of WD-40 or Penetration Blaster and be patient as it would come out piece by piece by never ending piece. Then one day a light bulb went off and I thought, plastic melts and plumbers have melting tools (TurboTorch setup + Mapp Gas bottle) when the bathroom conveniently had a window I could open that really saved me the hassle of explaining to the customer that after a few hours the smell of toxic burning shower cartridge plastic will go away but look on the bright side.......Our plumbing shops $140 per hour charge didnt have to be double because of my torch wielding methods and the love of burning siezed old Delta cartridges out of customers shower valves.......hey if it came out with a pair of pliers and a few wiggles then I was happy with that method too. ❤.

Never even knew they had a tool. I have replaced more of these then I could count and always used a decent pair of Chanel lock pliers. Not once have I had a problem barring the one time someone sabotaged the valve on purpose after being evicted. They broke of the end of the valve so I had to keep breaking it inside the housing and removing the pieces till I got it all, but this tool wouldn't have helped under those conditions anyway.

I had a Delta cartridge and couldn't get it out by hand, was getting out the heavy tools and realized I was flirting with disaster so I threaded that big ring back on so I could turn water to the house on. Looked online to see if a puller existed and found this one on Amazon for about $220. Add that to the cost of a replacement cartridge and you are probably spending less than if you hired a plumber to do the job. Seen too many videos of people who spent hours removing the old cartridge after they broke it was glad I put the job on hold until I got the tool. If you have another tub or shower in your house with the same Delta valve you may get another chance to use this.

Seriously for $220, I (as a homeowner, not a pro that does it for a living ... if a pro, of course buy it!) I would rather pull out the grey plastic part then chip away at the white part that always gets stuck in the valve.

WD40 always has for me too but it did not work for me recently on a bath remodel, I did manage to get the handles off but that's as far as I got. It took over an hour on the first handle alone and I was soaking with WD40, prying/pulling/cussing as hard as I ever have on a piece of pipe!! On top of that the main shutoff in the basement wouldn't turn more than about a 1/8th of a turn so I had to shut the water off way up at the street. I finally just told them they were getting new handles and escutcheon plates (which is all she wanted anyway), and if they leak in the future then maybe I'll spend the $220 for the tool and come back and swap out the cartridges.

@cblanton42 😅😂😂😂 as the joke goes, a preacher bought a used lawn mover. But could not start it when about to do first mowing with it. So, go back to the seller told him mower not starting. Seller tells Preacher cuss at it will start. Preacher says, he doesn't cuss. Seller tells him, keep pulling the cord it will come to you 😅😅 you just reminded me of that joke.

You can take the Shark bite fittings off by using an open end wrench that just fits around the tubing or you can also use an adjustable Cresent wrench to do it. No need to buy any special tool to take them off.

Agree that the orange/plastic tools are a joke. I've taken a piece of PVC pipe, split it down the middle or removed a piece to make a collar to slip over the pipe to be removed and had better success than the orange or other sized piece without running to a store. The squeeze tongs I also agree that are a joke, difficult to squeeze and can bend for the $12 to $15 for a sole size. Returned to the store. Slim-Gem I hadn't seen before so thanks for revealing this but like others....a link to where to get it would be easier. Also...your video like so many others, shows a technique with a piece of pipe not installed. Who literally shows one being removed up in the air or in a crawl space when connected? Haven't seen that yet!

Had this exact same problem today. First break off the two plastic pieces which hold the cups and springs (just pull hard with channel locks). Next, with a chisel, remove the plastic until you can see the stainless steel metering part inside the plastic. Take a drywall screw and screw it into one of the holes on the stainless steel part. Now you can use your channel locks to grip the drywall screw and pull straight out.

My cartridge broke half ways and the back piece got stuck in the pipe. I tried taking out and all the plastic around it is broken where im left with the bare stainless steal piece. Can i still take that out. It is pretty stuck in in there. What would you recommend?

Oh I'm sorry to hear that. I had that happen my first time. What helped was lots of clr, and a needle nose plier with an adjustable width that's able to clamp down on what it's grabbing. It was a lot of wiggling but it finally came out. I just found out today that silicone grease will help prevent that in the future
