My grandad had a 45 with a 2 row 38inch spacing corn head. A neighbor Mr. Jurl Clayton used my dad's 95B John deere and the corn head to thresh 75acres acres of corn in 1969 for my dad.

we had a 45 with cab, surely a mis engineered machine. Over hauled most of it from stem to stern. Still couldn't keep it cool and the belt traction couldn't keep up with the engine horse power. It was marginal at best. Kept it two years, sold it for 2500 and the new owner never got it home. Engine locked up 5 miles from us. He left it there til trees grew through it. That was in 1977. Its still beside the road today. Where he left it.

it's nice seeing some older equipment still being utilized. Sure brings back memories. Thanks for sharing!

I helped Dad for years in the 80's with his 2 row Gleaner E (about the same size as a 45). I then bought my own E in about 88'. It took some time to harvest an 80 acre field of corn two rows at a time and then you had at least another 80 acres staring you in the face and not much time cause the cows had to be milked. Many truck loads hauling with a 1 1/2 ton 65' Ford. 200 bushels at a crack. Both of our combines had cabs. We ran about 300 acres total with corn, beans, oats and hay.
