At 10 years old I was driving a 755 JD which is pretty the same model just bigger. We had a small bush hog on it, they’re mainly used for golf courses. Spent many many hours on it, as soon as your fired it up it bought me right back!

I've had one of these for about 16 years. Other than minor leaks and items, I've not had to perform any repairs on it, just the usual maintenance items. I have almost every attachment made for it - mower, snowplow, snowblower, front 540rpm PTO, 3pt linkage, moldboard plow, tiller, cab, two sets of rims with ag and turf tires, front-end loader, and a Tilt-Dump vacuum. I think about the only attachment I don't have is the center plow. Everything works as expected. I turbocharged it just for grins but did not turn up the fuel so it's really just a bit of a gimmick - it probably has a bit stronger torque but not any additional power.

I bought five or six years ago an old 1988 Kubota g5200 14hp diesel mower. Has 4200hrs on it. Only reason I bought it was a bunch of hours is because it was my neighbors and I knew it was maintained correctly. I just keep it at the camp house. Runs like a top, but burns fuel like crazy.

I bought a brand new one in 1989, but mine is the 420 (Onan 20hp gasser). Still mowing our 4 acre`s to this very day. Only major thing i`ve had to do is replace the crank seals due to the front one was leaking on the PTO clutch for the mower, a new muffler, a new JD420 seat, and a throttle cable. Other than that, my 420 has been the best little tractor i`ve ever owned to date. The 60 inch deck is starting to get rough now, and you can`t buy them anymore. I also bought a brand new Kubota BX23s back in 2017, they`re a great tractor too. Parts are getting hard to find these days for thee ole JD420, so if an when it dies, the Kubota will take over the job full time. I use the BX for things that the 420 can never do. (backhoe & frontend loader work). Anyways, good to see the JD430 here in your video, they are great little tractors! Good on ya for fixin`er up!!! Looks good!

Back in the late 90s I used to mow a neighbor's lawn when they were out of town. They had one of these... Thing was a beast! LOVED the little red button on the floor. Locks the diff and you can actually kick the rear end out haha. such a great machine.

I bought one of those 4 years ago and took it down to the frame. Had everything but the hood powder coated including the wheels. It took a year but I got it 100% complete all hydraulics, 3 point and rear pto. I used those tractors in high school new in the 80s at an amusement park. I must have cut thousands of acres. I bought the one I restored hoping to find a tiller and front end loader. I spent a year looking at piles of rust and even bought plans to build a loader to factory specs. $5k later and not being able to find a tiller I sold it at a loss. It was a good idea that just didn't pan out. The parts are like buying gold! I bought a new 25 hp 4x4 tractor with everything I wanted and actually use it unafraid to get it dirty! lol

Always heard when servicing your air system that you’re not supposed to blow out the inner filter since the outer filter gets the majority of the contaminants

We had a 430 growing up at the shop. It was a great machine, but was traded on a bigger Deere. I collect old Cub Cadets now, and have a 1782 diesel. Either the 430 Deere or the 1782 Cub puts newer machines to shame. They are both mini farm tractors.

Doing some good work there young gun. I'd like to add a little tip that will make your life easier. Whenever you change, or repair ANY electrical connections. Be sure to Solder the new connections. These will last damn near forever as opposed to the quick Crimping ones. Learned this a long time ago and it really does pay off in the long run. And not to be a nag, but always wear some kind of eye protection when your cutting or grinding. You only get one set of eyeballs, and your gonna need 'em for a long time! lol Keep at this, your doing great!

Thanks Glenn, i was actually referring to the oils change in viscosity, as the oil i removed had over 500hrs on it. Far more than JD’s recommend service interval of 200hrs. Being that the oil I removed was is such poor condition, i know the new oil I installed should be changed at a reduced interval to act as a “flush”. Meaning that i should have used a generic 15w-40 instead of the higher end JD branded oil. Oil viscosity, additives and formulation play a major part in the longevity of the equipment.

A good one like that goes for pretty big bucks up here in Minnesota. That's actually not a bad deck. Next time you have it off go over the surface rust with a wire brush on a grinder and then treat it with rust converter. Then paint ir with the special Rustoleum no rust primer. That stuff works real well. Great idea on the corrugated plastic. Again, those hoods are EXPENSIVE, so try to do what you can to sae it. If you ever want to paint it PAINT RIGHT OVER THE DECALS, then put the new ones right over the top. It really helps to locate where to put the new decals, and no one will ever see that you put them on top of the old ones. Good luck!

You aren't old enough to remember the "Gas" shortages and odd and even plate numbers on vehicles being able to fill up only if your plate matched. This was in Virginia. This was also under Jimmy Carter's administration. In the wake of the 1973 Oil Crisis, gas stations across the country enacted different rationing policies and standby rationing plans were introduced. I have a friend who cut lawns during that period and he couldn't buy any gas for his push mower to cut lawns, so to get around that restriction *he converted his gas push mower to run diesel.* Diesel was not restricted and he had all the lawn business he wanted as a kid. He still does mechanical work on anything today. My Uncle, during the same period, had a hand crank pump that allowed our family to syphon off all the gas the allowed cars of the day (odd or even plate numbers) could get fueled. He would transfer the gas to a 55-gallon drum and when we couldn't get gas and needed it, the drum was usually full so we filled up or got what we needed from the 55-gallon drum until we could fill up at the station again. After the vehicles were syphoned off we would go back if we had time and sit in line and fill up for the second time that day. The stations, of course, ran out at the pumps often when you went in early or for the second time. Gas was a gamble, but diesel was easy.

Fing John Deere and those dumb ass square fuel filters. They held onto those for way way way to long. Surprised to see on on a lawn tractor. Air filter... it it isn't pulling the filter minder down. Don't touch them. Used filter stops more contaminants than a new filter. Highly doubt the inner filter needed changed. Hence why your deal didn't have any in stock. Engine oil. Just change it at 500 hours. It doesn't need a flush or short change intervals. Valve cover and valve train are clean. Diesel oil is black, and will always be black. I would have checked the valve lash while you were in there. 10:53 NEVER used distilled water in ANY cooling system. Not even short term. Get it out.
