This was really great! Of all the stuff I've searched for over the years regarding the thing, whether it was the comic series in the early 90's or the video game, this was the best, very unique to hear someone's interpretation of the things thoughts

Wholly fuck what a way to look at it . Imagine an alien species with self consciousness that can't communicate with us . And yet considers us to be the walking dead which entity is a tumer in closed from true life . Wow!!!! WTF. But at the same time he's a damn Jehovah's witness sticking his fucking foot in the door like a overzealous bible thumper trying to convert an unwilling person. Which when so said communion happens you lose all existence of self to join the greater good of one individual fucking THING 😳 . Yeah I wouldn't mind the extra abilities but if I can't be me using it then screw that shit . Now I truly believe the whole people getting abducted and probed they're willing to rape us into communion gad dammit .

I know we're supposed to take pity, but the thing is definitely playing the victim. "I tasted the flesh of the world, and the world attacked me. It. Attacked. Me " Have you tried saying hello instead of eating people? Bruh.

First and foremost this reading is fantastic, so thank you for sharing. That last line is so disgusting and disturbing, especially knowing the thing just learned what the r word was. Is the implication that all life in the universe, at least before the thing froze in the ice, behaved the same way as it? All cells with their own fragment of conciousness?

Hmmm...this was thought provoking. But be careful fellow humans! Do not be quick to believe anything that it says! 😅The Thing speaks often of the loss of its memory and intellect associated with the losses of its biomass, so for all we know, it's claims of visits to prior worlds which allegedly welcomed "communion" could be like religious fantasies, hallucinations; lies it must tell itself; thoughts instinctively formed from within its genetic makeup to help it confront the horrors of its own existence and the endless violent challenges to its survival that it suffers on Earth, and other worlds, while also providing it with a satisfying intellectual justification for its endless, voracious, and horrific appetite. This Thing thinks, but only if it endlessly eats. It criticised the inefficiency of human biology, but it also contradicted itself by acknowledging that humans exist on a "starvation diet". The Thing may absorb the knowledge of a million worlds, but for all of that knowledge, it really understands only one thing: Hunger. 😈

48:57 "Everything here is walking dead, and yet it fights so hard to keep going a little longer". Bloody LOVE that symbolism, it's even better than "a thinking tumour" 😊🥰 This is Incredibly well written. And it's so bizarre, wonderful and eerie to hear The Thing's thoughts and account almost as if it's some sort of genetic diary being deciphered and played back by way of tape recording 🙃 Also, 49:33 is so sad because for the most, and all too often, it's true. "I will have to rape it into them", talk about tough "love", Ooof! 😅 Have to say, this should be official cannon, it's just so well done and thought out, fair play.

I wonder if being assimilated is genuinely pleasurable like the thing describes. If when your consciousness joins with the collective, it's a bliss beyond compare.

I always thought the Thing was like the alien in Slither, it just absorbs and processes all organic matter on the planet till there's nothing left and then moves on. It's some kind of super metabolism that must constantly be fed.

Yet this story recontextualizes it as an explorer that genuinely doesn't understand why it's being attacked. It's just doing what's natural to it. To the alien, assimilation, or as it says "communion", is something as normal as breathing for us. It then sees humans as just living tumors and thinks assimilation is their only salvation, and that it will make every human partake in its communion, even if it has to drag us kicking and screaming.

I thought it was well known that Childs was the thing at the end. Even I knew that as a kid. But the thing didn't want to assimilate McGreedy he doesn't like McGreedy. It doesn't want anything to do with assimilating with him. He's a loner. The creature is not a loner. It doesn't want to assimilate with a loner. McGreedy knows that Child's is the thing. And he is not going to let him get away.
