Hi, nice work. What does the wood need doing to it to stop it from splitting or cracking?
@williammeck3466

Not sure if you’ve received an answer for this question since asking, however I seal the ends after it’s been cut so it dries more evenly before using them. You can use several methods like a few coats of thinned wood glue, latex paint, or a more expensive method using Anchorseal. After it’s dried you can just cut the tips off if you need to.

@@rusticaussiefurniture366 Yep all finished and sitting under the patio. I don't have an electric planer though so I put the seat beams from left to right rather than front to back, but I need to find a cushion for it. It's made out of ''soft'' wood but not so soft after sitting for a while!

Got job! I’m n old granny and I still love doing things like that. I was wondering why you used nails instead of screws tho.
@rusticaussiefurniture366
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! The reason I use nails is because this is how I was taught but also I like the way they look and finish off the piece of furniture. I have used screws on other pieces not documented here, to the same success, but its in a way more work due to having to counter-sink them. It is just my personal preference to use nails. :)

@@rusticaussiefurniture366 yes screws ate not that beautiful, now using a strong wood bar, make a hole with drill , insert a round piece of wood, dont know what call it in english, would look even nicer?
@ruthpresutti4472
5 жыл бұрын
Maicol X777 Maybe you mean a wood plug. A wood plug covers the screw and gives it a more finished look. Yes, I think it is personal preference. I like the look of nails better than screws. The only thing I’d like better than the look of store bought nails would be hand made square nails!
