Walt did know it was inscribed. That's why he figured out later that Hank knew from the book when he couldn't find it anywhere in the house.

My take is that when you live a double life, it will drive you insane to pay attention to every detail. You forget which is which, the two blend together, you make mistakes. And there are people waiting to pounce on them when you do slip up.

I don't consider for a second it was due to careless behavior. That book was from Gale, with his inscriptions, the same Gale that Hank was obsessed once. Not only that, Walt never allowed Hank to believe Heisenberg was caught, cause Walt obviously wanted to be famous for that

I think with his inflated ego and his accomplishments, he became more cocksure. His methodical nature was made by feeling inadequate and being afraid, but he loses fear more and more as the series continues. He’s not getting sloppy, as much as he is being confident. And confidence blinds you to your weakenesses

About a decade ago now I went to a bookstore, and a cute worker helped me around and chatted and lightly flirted with eachother for a while. I didn't want push my luck or be that guy that asks out people working, so I didn't make a move. Bought a book, I read it, then it sat on my bookshelf for years. And I never saw that girl again. 2 years ago. I found that she has inscribed her name and number in the book. And well, a bit late now. But yeah lots of people overlook things all the time.

Cynical opinion. The show was coming to an end and they wanted to speed up the process of Walt getting caught.

When Dean started crying too. 😭And exclaiming "That's why I love her!" Two of the greats. Honestly their rough patch with Hank lashing out at her due to his injury is underratedly one of the hardest things to watch in this show. He's right about that elevator scene, too. One of the most effecting moments. I may have been the only (other) person closely following their character arcs, but god damn, I was fed

My first thought was also that Considering how quickly Walt went from liking Gale to wanting him fired and killed to save himself and Jesse, it makes sense he would reject the gift by not even looking at it.

I get the sense that they cut out the applause of the seals there watching for a unique event, but too caught up in being in an audience that there would be laughter and applause of various sorts in between the cast speaking. In any case, so much easier to watch than having your finger on the fast-forward button throughout.

I think it’s because he gave little to no shit about Gale and that his gift of the book was so non-important to Walter that even though there was an inscription, the book belonged as a read in the shitter in his mind

Also, I believe Hank sort of gives Walt a spiel near the beginning of the show that it's "the little things" that get you caught as a criminal. Ironically enough, that's what gets Walt in the end as well.

I actually think this was one of the weaker moments because I actually think the book inscription was in reality such weak evidence that it should have led to nothing and it completely caused his downfall. Admittedly, some of that comes down to him confronting Hank about the car monitor. Had he just played it safe after I think Hank would have just had to accept he was likely mistaken or it's just coincidence.
