I live in Northwich, in1998 the bridge was lifted of the pontoon and placed on the river bank so strengthening work and renovation could take place. The crane used was Baldwin's Gottwald AK912 1000 ton lifting capacity. I photographed the lifting.

Utterly brilliant! As a boy, I was always pleased when a boat came through, so I could watch the bridge swing around. I remember a flagpole that held two round baskets aloft. I think they were raised and lowered as a signal. Or perhaps I'm getting mixed up with the Hayhurst Bridge. Anyway, a superb piece of work.
