After disconnecting battery, how long did you proceed with removing seat? Someone said you'll have to wait a couple hours to be safe??

Hopefully I get a fast reply I need to change the buckle and I have a guy helping me. The problem is the bolt is too tight. We tried using WD-40 and it still stuck

I'm not really sure how to solve that... maybe try a power socket wrench if you have one. Or just keep trying it and hopefully will loosen. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Best wishes with it.

Why does seat need to be removed?
@jasonwhisman
3 жыл бұрын
You can’t reach the bolt to take off the buckle without taking the seat out. That was my experience. Also the new buckle will have cables that need to be placed properly underneath the seat. Basically I found I couldn’t do the swap out without removing the seat.

What type is the tool you are using?

I was using a socket wrench. It came as a set with different size sockets, so you could use the one that fits.

Hi The pyro sensor in the seat belt pretensioner could be bad. Most likely need to replace the seat belt pretensioner. You can buy a used one on www.eBay.com or send your seat belt for repair at www.myairbags.com Here is Video kzitem.info/news/bejne/2Ypr2p2Ka3Noa6w

I don't understand why the seat belt needs a cable shouldn't it just have a mechanical function???
@jasonwhisman
3 жыл бұрын
The cable connects to the car sensors/electrical system. That would be why the car would flash the passenger seatbelt light when someone is sitting there and the belt is not buckled.
@justin9202

@@jasonwhisman so without it plugged in you will always get the seatbelt light on?
@jasonwhisman
3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure. I’ve never tried it without the cable connected. It might still flash because the weight sensor in the seat would detect if someone is sitting there. You would just have to test it out.
@justin9202

@@jasonwhisman if it shuts off the seatbelt sensor so it doesn't active that would be a cool feature, however I would think it would leave the sensor on always though

My buckle will not unlock!!!!
@jasonwhisman
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that would create a problem. Might still have to take out the seat bolts and then angle the seat so you can get at the buckle and then take it off the seat and take the buckle apart. That is just a thought. I didn't have that problem so not sure exactly what to do in that situation. There might also be another video on KZitem here that addresses that problem.

Where is the best place to get the replacement buckle??
@jasonwhisman
4 жыл бұрын
123zalmy I got it used off of eBay. Worked great. The connections are slightly different for drivers side and passengers side, so just make sure you get the right one. I know you can get it through Toyota as well but that is more expensive.

OMG. Sarah was my protégé so many moons ago. From college, and onward to entry level jobs, management positions, and then out of the nest- searching for her own dreams and aspirations. Along the way, Sarah found true freedom. Sarah found Sarah. Jason Whisman, twin and soulmate, during all those years and many chats, you and Adam were always the first to be recognized with love during Sarah's contemplations and reflections and thoughts about the journey of life. This is by far one of the greatest short films I've ever seen. Cheers to Harrison, Ina, Kim, Sarah and your parents! xo Need to go find big box of tissues now!

I wouldn't have thought to disconnect the battery first. What do you think would have happened if you skipped that step?
@jasonwhisman
5 жыл бұрын
I don't know that anything would have, but I had heard that if you don't disconnect the battery you could possibly set off the airbag when you disconnect the connections underneath the seat. I thought better to be safe about it. Thanks for the comment.

+Garrick Depending on the vehicle, there is a procedure to disconnect each zone if equipped with SIR and side SIR modules on seats. However, most get luck but the "Yellow" connector had a "Shorting" bar inside the plastic connector. This bar falls across both terminals of the air bag module and prevents static electricity or store voltage from the deployment module from triggering it. Side air bags will have a sensor either inside the "B" pillar, the door, or the seat. It determines the force of impact and sends a signal to the deployment module to determine if deployment should be completed or ignored. But removing SIR fuse(s) or disconnecting the battery, waiting for 20 minutes for the capacitors in the deployment module to discharge is best practices. ASE Master Tech since 1978 / retired.
