Saw a "mechanic" do that once with a truck tire and starting fluid (ether). The tire exploded and the steel cords ripped his legs, and part of the shop, to shreds. There was a sign on the shop wall saying, "Anyone using ether to set tire beads will be fired - retroactive to five minutes before." The manager came out of his office and told the guy he had been fired, "five minutes ago".

@Timo tyres not all rubbers are made equal and designed specifically for different applications. A vehicle's tyre is generally made from butadiene or styrene butadiene rubber. Rubber's elasticity is due to their long molecules and exposure to hydrocarbons will have chemical bonds that will break this molecular structure and in long term will exhibit tearing. It is dangerous to disclose that this is how somebody could sabotage someone's car by use of rag damped with diesel placed on top of tyre, it will bulged overtime. Now there is this Nitrile butadiene rubber which is made resistant to oil and it's practical applications can be found in gaskets, o-ring or chemical resistant gloves. off topic but related : a latex condom will break if oil is used as lubricant this is why only water based lubricant in used ;)
