Who said: Gasoline is for cleaning parts, alcohol is for drinkin' and Nitro is for racin'?

What is sprayed into the intake at the end to kill the engine?
@stevenandersen3525
Жыл бұрын
Gasoline. Nitro is so caustic and generates such a hot fire in the cylinders that there's virtually no upper cylinder lubricant left. Gasoline has a small amount of oil in it so it's used to replace that residual lube in shutting down the engine.

This reminds me of when I used to live near Niagara Dragstrip in Niagara Falls, NY back in the mid-1960's. Went to many drag races there always was thrilling to see the front-engined fuel dragsters run there they were machines of beauty, thunder and smoke..back then they would often smoke the rear tires all the way down to the time trap.

This video is 8 mins. ~ 42 secs. in length. The car is started on alcohol at 4 min. ~ 46 secs. and runs on it for 1 min. ~ 9 secs. Then we switch it over to nitromethane at 5 mins. ~ 55 secs. and it runs for 2 mins. 7 secs. before we shut it down at 8 mins. ~ 2 secs. using a squirt bottle with regular gasoline.

They ran it quite a while considering it has no cooling system.

Actually the water jackets in the block on this particular engine have been filled with lead. Filling the water jackets is a necessity when using a high percentage of nitromethane to prevent the cylinders from exploding into that area.

@@stevenandersen3525 Yes sir, Still, it's interesting that without a cooling system, without the air rushing past even, they run it and rev it a good solid 10 minutes, seems like. Would love to know what temp those heads got up to

I built a bad ass 440 nitro methane monster. I fired it here at one time and I reckon some neighbors a tad distance away weren't too happy. Cops showed up they loved it but I was gently informed some kind of mufflers rather than open headers would be slightly appreciated and also to please refrain from doing it when the sun is not shinning. It was only 10:30 pm had to hear it.
