It's fun watching them dig around in the dirt. It reminds me of a construction site. I see some cute little butts sticking out while the hamsters have their heads in the dirt working.

Natural substrate is the best. Nice soil mixed with clay and sand makes for good substrate that holds its shape and drains well.

Yep, hamsters love digging. It means shelter from the elements, it means protection from predators, it is in their nature, and they love it. Because the ones who didn't … got eaten and died of exposure. But those two, well, their teamwork had room for improvement. This is from many years ago, I suppose they had a good life.

It's fun to watch them work. Hamsters are happiest doing what comes naturally and having the room and the things they need to do it. I love watching them dig in the dirt.

Look like she is good at making it look like the wild :) and wild dwarf hamsters don't really fight other hamsters.. so it is fine, but just in case she should have a spare cage

They were brother and sister, but when they lived together they start fighting sometimes so I used to put them in different cages.

@@cristinatorres9214 Yeah, I've heard fighting can be a problem. I'd definitely keep a spare cage if I got a pair, but at least they're happy living alone if they have to be split up. I have two dwarf hamsters at the moment, and they've always been in separate cages.

@@WeeLin Hi, I tried a pair (two sisters) but as every expert will tell you, it won't last long and they will start to fight for their own personal space. So yeah, sadly you can't keep them together for long. They like being on their own :)

I had two dwarf hamsters together for a month, and then I split them up too since they started fighting. Like the above comment said, it is better to just house them separately. Better to be safe.
