Thank you Celine. I was almost at the end of my performing career, so not my best, but it still fills my heart with joy

I had the privilege to be rehearsed for this piece by Ernestine Stodelle. Ernestine had been in Doris’s company at the same time as this work was being created in 1931. The dance is about how does a woman fall in love and yet still remain strong. The images and inner story Ernestine instilled were powerful. These opening few movements were challenging - you are falling in love, but at the same time, you are trying to remain anchored. Hence the outstretched arms to each side of the stage, combined with the reoccurring theme of staying grounded in 2nd position plié. Ernestine wanted my arms to act like anchors, even while my body was to swoon backward, which was the dance’s metaphor for falling in love Zella June 2021
