Dear Pierre - just another note to thank you for your kind reply and to wish you, your superb dad, and all your flying colleagues there "dans la Belle France" blue skies, soft landings, and my very best regards! I've watched your video many more times with friends and family and they all love it! My son Eric, (nee en France dans Le Vosges in Epinal in 1984) is really inspired by it and wants to learn to fly our little Turbulent some day! My grand-kids love the reaction of the cows in your animated crash scene at the start of the video! They want to watch it over and over! Too funny!! I hope to have my Turbulent flying again this Summer and will post a video! In the meantime Meilleures Felicitations, I'm wishing you all good health, and please please whatever you do don't take that video down from youtube!! All the Best, Richard Lyon @@pierredubouesadron6865

UPDATE : Last May, the Turbulent prototype has been put back in storage; wings and engine are disassembled. My dad feels that now he is too old to fly it (85 yo). It will not fly again except if someone else somewhere is motivated enough to take over from him. photos.app.goo.gl/VgyXzCS5jU4KzJcU6

Bonjour! Malheureusement, il y 3 semaines il a décidé d'arrêter de voler tout court (85ans). L'aile a été démontée et il a été remisé dans le grenier de la ferme jusqu'à une date inconnue hélas (2075??) . Unfortunately, 3 weeks ago, he has decided to stop flying (85yo). The wing has been dismounted and plane is now stored in the attics of the farm for an unknown period (till 2075?).

I am very pleased to see the Druine Turbulent flying again. I would like to buy one, but they are very rare in the United States. Perhaps there is one in Canada for me ? My old flying friend Don Duncan had a Jodel Bebe ... which I admired. He told me he had wanted to buy a Turbulent but could not find one. I can understand why, the stronger, taller landing gear with the large diameter wheels is much better. I am grateful to be able to see the wing spar and other construction details. We are all indebted to the Pioneers in French Aviation for the foundation of our flying hobby. I salute your father and I salute you Pierre for sharing your wonderful turbulent story with us ! Hello from California here the land looks very much the same - beautiful. 2022 .

And I am pleased as well that this video could reach more Turbulent lovers ! :) I will forward your kind reply to my dad, he will love to read it !! (and I will ask him about this landing gear difference between the "Bebe Jodel" (not "Jodel Bebe" btw) and the Turbulent, he has flown both). Anyway, I wish you best luck in finding one back in California ! This is a nice weather for old gears :D. Please share your email and I can share more details about the "wing spar and other construction details".

I also have a D.3 (NOT a D.31!). Mine was built in 1960 and I acquired it in flying condition in 2001. I still fly it. They are treasures, are they not? (*smile*) I envy your tailskid operation. I am forced to use a tailwheel due to the pavement I have to deal with, but at least it gives me a good mounting for the tiny tow release I made so I can hand start with the tail restrained. It is operated from the cockpit with a tiny strand of model airplane control line (0.016 stranded steel) with a small ring under my left arm to pull and release. The entire installed mechanism weighs about 30 grams. (I may go to a combination tailskid/non-steerable hidden wheel arrangement.

Hi ! Thanks for your comments :) I put D3 D31 to attract all Turbulent lovers ;). In fact, the n°58 is the prototype of the D3, built in '52 (Druine was an industrial drawer and he used "liasse #58" to draw the plane, hence its number). My dad still flies with it today. He acquired it in '64, after buying it second hand (or third) in non flying condition. After crashing it in 1972, he restaured it 46 years later, hence 3-4 years ago, and indeed it flies like a charm ;) Congrats on your tails trick !!
