This entire channel and all its participants are shaping the future. I would like to hear about struggles with medication adjustments and the steps taken to remedy or at least mitigate the struggle. The more sources we have with first hand knowledge of real world applications, the better. Remember, not only mental health patients find this channel but health care providers as well. The level of hope, never before seen in this modern age must be cultivated and grown to fruition. This channel must grow, far beyond what it is now. It is imperative. The domino effect of this information will rock the world. From prison food selection to kindergarten lunch plates; the world must know... because the world suffers.

I found this channel yesterday and I’m absolutely mind blown with all of the stories I’m hearing. Until now I have never heard that I could get better or even possibly be well. Only that I will always have bipolar and that it’s progressive. I’m on so much medication and my quality of life is rough. Hearing over and over that I will never recover has made me not even want to participate in my life. I am so grateful for this information!

I have bipolar 1 with my first manic episode occurring at age 42. I had a second 2 years later. I was devastatingly ill for 6 months both times. For years before I struggled with gut problems. My bloodwork always looked ok and scans were clear as I became unable to function in daily stomach pain. Gluten free diet didn’t help. And then out of nowhere in my forties I lose my mind as bad as you could imagine. I didn’t eat for weeks. Finally I was hospitalized and drugged and the episode stopped. My life was in shambles when I came back to reality but my guts were healed. My chronic back pain was healed. It was mind blowing I had been sick for maybe a decade. So I foolishly go back to a bad diet. The medications make you slow and starving. I’ve gained so much weight and feel just unwell in general. I’m on way too much medication but my episodes were both so bad and so long I live in daily fear of it happening again. Hearing this talk… especially the part where she explains the possibility of being well and not being defined by this diagnosis is giving me some hope. I’ve been thinking hard about what to do because being on meds and living in fear is awful. It feels like my life has paused and I’m just waiting to lose my mind again. This has inspired me and I’m going to do keto. It’s all making a lot of sense. Thank you 💙

Thankyou for this interview. I have just started the keto diet. I have BP II and gained 20kg from medications, which comes with carb cravings. Three years ago I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease as a 59 year old. I think I may have suffered hyperinsulinaemia for my whole life as I have always struggled with massive blood glucose drops. I am in Australia (Melbourne), and there appears to be very little understanding of ketogenic therapy for mental illness and neurodegenerative disease. I am not planning to discontinue my meds without medical supervision. I am finding the diet very challenging but each day my determination to continue increases because already the sugar swings and abdo bloating have subsided. I can't believe I have lived with this for so incredibly long. Thanks to you all.

“What causes this illness?”I asked the psychiatrist who diagnosed me with bipolar. “If you and I can work this out, we’ll get the Nobel prize for medicine” she replied. You did it Dr. Palmer! I’m three weeks into the ketogenic diet and pushing through some instability in sleep. I’m hoping it will work for me. Thank you Dr. Palmer I’m so grateful. You don’t need the Nobel prize, turning the tables on this suffering, hopelessness and misery will be your legacy.

Great comparison of bipolar with lack of limbs. As there's so many limitations that come with this disorder. And unfortunately people will still not understand it,because it is not visible nor physical.

Very interesting talk on the spiritual slant that many psychosis take. For myself i was depressed and anhedonic from 18-24yrs and this turned me into a seeker like Ian mentioned. Because if the pain and lack of meaning I was constantly researching and trying to find the meaning of life and what this was all about. This lead me to spirituality and learning about different states of consciousness. Every night for several years I would read for hours and go down massive rabbit holes looking for answers. That curiosity and search lead me to places all around the world to find an answer and try to 'heal' myself, India, Peru etc. It also led me to try different substances hoping some kind of plant medicine could heal me. It led to a psychotic episode when i was 24 that was centered around spiritual delusions, thinking I was being allowed entry into a spiritual realm. I was admitted to hospital for 2 months and I had zero insight, I thought I was being punished for not being good enough to make it into this spiritual dimension. I find it so curious that so many psychosis have this spiritual slant to them. I also truly believe I have had real spiritual experiences at times in my life, and that the power of those real experiences and inability for my concious mind to reconcile them with my everyday life could even have contributed to the emergence of my psychosis, along with a number of other factors. I am 8 years post that psychosis with relative stability but still anhedonia, brain fog and some social and general anxiety. I am day 1 of a ketogenic diet and excited to see what happens. Thank you for sharing your stories, really really helpful and healing to hear people I can relate to speak about things that are so hard to explain and describe.

Stubbled across your podcast and very grateful you both created this podcast to talk about your experiences. I am stable but not thriving, hoping keto might help me. I still feel under a fog of low mood and bouts of exaggerated irritation at people and situations. I was diagnosed with schitzoaffective at 24 in 2016 after a major episode of psychosis. So grateful to have never experienced that again, but also still have lingering low mood and low mental energy and concentration that affects both my work and my capacity to have lasting relationships and friendships. Look forward to watching more of your videos :)

How could diet not be instrumental in exacerbating or even causing mental illness? The modern diet gets more processed and sugar-filled by the day while mental illness rates are nearing epidemic proportions. It's really discouraging to me when people do not believe that dietary changes can alleviate mental illness symptoms, because it's so intuitive. Thanks for trying to normalize the sentiment guys! I think this is just the beginning for keto and bipolar.

Matt and Ian, I love you guys both and can't thank you enough for the power your work has had in my life. Thank you 🤎 Brilliant discussion with your guest. 7 months Carnivore, still healing from so many ailments. But my mental health has never been better. I had no idea what it felt like to just be calm and relaxed and happy. I NEVER had experienced that. I will never go back. My brain amazes me now instead of torturing me. People who have not experienced this have no flipping idea. Its tragic this video doesnt have more views already

Research in general (inflammation, food sensitivities, microbiome, intestinal permeability, therapeutic ketosis vs internet ketosis) Pmdd. Perhaps these are too broad for bipolar . But it can help with cross traffic. My daughter is 6 and we use keto to keep inflammation under control so she can breathe out of her nose. Food sensitivities were set off by a tick bite. I use it to keep pmdd and bipolar under control but was surprised when it also helped me heal from tick borne illnesses/sleep apnea/ intestinal permeability/ mast cell activation etc. guest interview with dr Clemens with paleomedicina perhaps.

I did a micro dose of psilocybin about 45 days ago. I had a migraine everyday all day long for 45 days. Terrible constipation. I ate carbs in an effort to do anything to help my headaches. Maybe the carbs or maybe cyclobenzaprine helped with the headaches. But now the hallucinations the ups and downs. I am waiting on exogenous ketones in the mail but thinking maybe lithium could help???

I’m not sure a calm place would work for women who become psychotic with their menstrual cycle. I mean I wouldn’t hurt anyone or perhaps you could hide me away for a time. ….The inputs come from inside us during this time. The stimulants are not externally inputs only. Although, the external inputs are certainly what I generally react to. But, the drama is there.

Wow, Carrie! You look so much younger than your video 5 years ago!!!! This is interesting, when people lose weight on calories counting and fasting, they look older, and only when I see weightloss stories on keto, there is a totally visible antiaging effect! I wonder what could be the reason behind it
