Bolted to a powerglide with a 3500 stall converter going to a 373 gear with a full spool.

These heads did great for what they were which are 305 58cc heads. I updated a short video on the 327 which is now in an 81 Monte Carlo, the rear end is set up the same but I'm running a powerglide with a BTE pro brake valve body and a 10-inch 3500 converter. I swapped the 305 heads out for a set of gmpp aluminum fast burn cylinder heads, I added comp dual valve springs that comp uses on their duntov 3030 cam. My cam is a Schneider 137f, Elgin solid lifters I added guide plates to the heads also and I filed my feeler gauge down to fit between the GM 1.5 roller rockers because they are SA style, my cam is a tight lash cam of .015, I set mine to .014. it is now a complete different machine, throttle response is super quick, torque and horsepower went way up. It ran great before. Other than valve float in the 5+k range it was fast but nothing like now. I have to run a 6800 msd module to keep the RPMs down. I also had to swap intakes because the gmpp heads use the vortec style intake manifold. Forged flat top pistons,4340 scat rods, arp rod and main bolts, standard ACL bearings, 8 quart oil pan, msd ignition, long tube headers. If you see this video then check out the two short videos I posted of it now. I pulled a hole shot in front of my house and broke the right axle. It had moser street axles in it with a full spool and a 373 gear. Otherwise I'd made a video of it on the road. The heads, valve springs, and 10 inch 3500 convertor change has completely changed my mild street 327 into a wild quick reving torque monster. At an even 30 mph I can stomp on it and it easily breaks traction and gets a bit sideways. Also if you haven't had the opportunity to run an aluminum head over iron I can tell you now the cooling factor can't be touched. Aluminum heads run and stay so much cooler not to mention they have much better port and chamber designs versus the old school stuff. You can make lots of power and torque with the old school heads but once you feel your at the most you'll get from them, then swap the heads for some dart pro1 heads or afr, gmpp fastburn heads, Edelbrock, whatever brand and you'll see an immediate improvement everywhere as long as you're running a valve spring that works with your cam.

I have newer vids of the 327 with top end swap after doing this video. I swapped the 305 heads for gmpp fastburn cylinder heads with dual comp valve springs. A vortec style intake to match the heads. And a 10 inch 3500 converter, a complete different machine now than when this video was made. I will update a new video but it'll be a few because I literally broke my right axle the day after I put the motor back in the car which is now an 81 Monte Carlo rather than a red 81 Malibu but both have the same rear end Moser axles and all but the Malibu had a 350 turbo with a 2200 converter and a shift kit whereas now I'm running a monster powerglide with trans brake and 3500 stall converter. Unbelievable how much more torque and horsepower it has now. Having to run a 6800 rpm pill to keep the RPMs down. Throttle response is crazy quick. I also upgraded from a 670 DP to an 850 HP series double pump carb. The motor is a 40 over 327 with true forged flat top pistons, 4340 rods from Scat and a cast steel crank. Running standard ACL rod main and cam bearings. Elgin solid lifters, Schneider 137F camshaft, comps dual valve springs that they use on their 3030 duntov solid and the heads and rockers are from a 604 crate engine. My heads have guide plates that I added along with the sa style 1.5 GM roller rockers. I shaved my filler gauge down to fit under the rockers to set lash. It's a tight lash cam so I'm not worried about the rockers causing an issue. If the cam had any more last than what's required then I would have ran a non SA style rocker arm assembly.

Mine worked good for about 4 months then started wearing the outer edge of the belt. Got to looking at the alternator and it looked as if it was crooked like the alternator to waterpump bracket bolt spread was ¼ or so short. I put it all on a 383 that I shifted at 7200 with and that setup wouldn't stay on. Bought 3 different ones but wouldn't keep a belt on at high rpm. Went back to v belts. It did work good with my 327 though with about ¾ deflection. I believe if you tighten them to tight they'll throw the belt. Be nice if the alternator pulley had some sort of taller edge to prevent the belt from walking off. I do like them though and they look great for sure.

wrong baby boy... back fires are caused by valves 99% of the time... you need to get a real high paying job so you can take it to a dealer for ALL issues you ever have
@americanfreedom1
Жыл бұрын
If you had the balls to call me baby boy to my face I promise it would be lesson learned. 2nd of all I've been doing mechanical work for over 30yrs. I've seen a lot and yes a backfire through the intake side is only caused by 2 different issues either electrical or something in the valve train. My harley was backfiring because it's fuel injected and was get a false reading due to the hole in the check valve hose. A bad coil can break down at a specific rpm and cause backfiring, a faulty charging system can cause a backfire once the battery gets depleted below average charge and so on just as a burnt valve or bent valve or worn cam lobe etc. As for the shop you go right ahead and waist your money. The guy I'd bought my harley from did have it in the shop 2x which was revealed to me last summer when I bought new tires for it. They worked on it and they charged him but didn't fix it. I've dealt with shops in the past. I built powerglide transmissions, gm 350th and some 400th, fords 5r55e,5r55s,5r55w and I've fixed the 55w and 55s for 600 vs a shop that will and does charged around 2200 typically. I won't go into the repairs I've done that so called professionals did that wasn't correct like a brand new 327 engine that wasn't right from the start that was built by a so-called professional of 40 plus yrs that had the crankshaft all screwed up. I still have the crankshaft in my garage. Again if you feel the need to refer to me as baby boy I ask that you grow a set and let me know if you're ever in east tn.

My 07 Softail Custom has been randomly popping on decell and then stalling out at stops for the past couple of years now...! It's been a complete mystery and still is even though I finally decided to take it to my Harley guy and we discovered that the fuel lines had small pin holes in them so he installed all new fuel lines, (replacement fuel filter line kit,) new HD clamps, new fuel check valve as it was bad also .! Fuel pressure would drop all the way down to 10.! And so, did this fix the random popping and stalling.? No, it did not.! A week later after riding it all day the popping returned and then a stall-out while I was turning onto my street for home... Fired right back as it always does... What else could be doing this.? Note: It throws no codes
@americanfreedom1
Жыл бұрын
My 2 cents would be I would have pulled the pump and inspected the hose myself simply because of 2 reasons. 1st Harley claimed this ethanol fuel was causing the fuel lines to deteriorate when it was the excess hose required to remove the fuel pump was rubbing against the tank causing the holes. 2nd harley is all about the money. I was told by my local harley shop that my bike was there 3x for popping and missing when I had them put new front and rear tires on it. Personally I'd start with swapping out the coil because it is a split unit and I have a brand new bad coil. Then I'd replace everything they touch. I'd be willing to say had they only swapped the check valve assembly that might have fixed but idk. I do know I've seen enough to not let anyone work on my stuff. When harley put new tires on my bike they where like well we might have to put new front and rear brake pads and probably new bearings in the wheels. I said nope i don't think so because I'd put a new tube in the rear 3 months prior and new brakes for front only at same time. They still charged me a little over 850.00. If your mechanic didn't put a brand new check valve assembly in your tank but rather replaced the hose only then that will be the problem. You can do it but there's a compression clamp used and if not 100 right you'll continue with the issue.

@@americanfreedom1 man thanks for replying... Everything was replaced except for the check assembly valve... He even put rubber hosing around the sections where the fuel line is known to rub... Now I sat right there in the shop watching everything he did and he was thorough... He did examine the check assembly valve by eye and mouth by blowing in it and said it was good but I think it should have been replaced myself but thats the only part he didnt have in stock that day... He showed me step by step how to get the fuel pump assembly out of the tank so I think I'm gonna take your advice and start with the coil and then the check valve... No but do cover how to pull the fuel pump out. You don't have to pull it completely out, just the 1st half of it is plenty enough to swap out the hose. The bottom outside connection is a quick disconnect, simply use 2 fingers to pull down the coller while you slightly push up then pull down the lower connection that goes to the throttle body. May want to tape a towel to your tank to keep any of the fuel pump assembly from causing any scratches

Back in middle school i fixed a few xl and xr 80s, honda 3 wheelers etc. We'd always cut out the baffle so when we'd wind them up then completely de throttle it would sound cool to us but I'm sure the neighbors hated it. I eventually came to the conclusion that excessive throttling down without braking was the cause of stretched timing chains and worn guide components. We always kept good oil change maintenance also.

A little over a hundred dollars and I hot the alternator pulley, 2 belts and the bottom pulley. It bnb is designed for a v belt on the back side for power steering. Don't over tighten or it will ruin the pulley and start running the belt off so I've been told. I adjusted mine to have ⅝ to ¾ flex to it.
