A daughter? You better spend every free moment with her that you can. You know why? Cause your gonna miss this. And that is the crux of country music. Three chords and the truth.

These were different times. I remember back in the mid 70's, apparently there was a woman in our town that had cast greedy eyes on my dad. My sweet saintly mother went to her house, drug her out in the from yard and proceeded to beat the h*ll out of her. The cops were called to break up the fight. When the cops got the story out of the two ladies, they looked at the "other woman" and advised her to leave this woman's husband alone if she didn't want this to happen again. Mom was forced to leave with a ticket and $15 fine. She said it was the best money she ever spent.

At the end of the song he says " sometimes you have to fight when YOU'RE A MAN. Not sometimes you have to fight to be a man. There is a big difference in those words if you are paying attention closely.

Gee, am I in a parallel universe? I love KD Lang. She is great with an amazing voice. But in what universe is she considered country? I love Leanord Cohen. Like most people I love Hallelujah. But, tell me, exactly In what universe is that song considered country? Not the one I live in, for sure. The rest of you can live in whatever universe you want. In fact, I encourage you to do so. I'll stay in mine. Why don't y'all just stay out of mine? Thank you very much.

In The Coward of the County made for TV movie, I think his dad was a brawler & got into a bar fight & accidently killed the guy he was brawling with. The Gatlin Bros were the spoiled rich kids who bullied everyone in the town because their dad/family were rich/powerful & they could get away with being A-holes. Also, I think one of them wanted Becky, but she only had eyes for Tommy & that's why he and his brothers went over & forced themselves on her...

How the hell can a persON / go to work in the mornIN' / come home in the evenIN' / and have nothin' to say. Person, mornin' & evenin' are near rhymes with the rhyme is on the last syllable of these 3 lines. Nothin' also follows the rhyme pattern even though it falls in the middle of the line.

I'm not an expert, but I really love Kristofferson's 'The Silver Tongued Devil and I'! You should try that one, I think. Of course, this one was a song he got Johnny Cash to do, so most will know JC's version best. And JC kept the very controversial words for his TV version!

He is a legend & an icon & a very distinctive guitar player with that running line!!!!!!! I still listen to him even now at 75!!!! He was Buddy Holly's bass player & yes he gave his seat up to the Big Bopper that night that the music died!!!

I only heard him when I came across a tribute to him on Stephen Colberts late show the day after he died from covid. It was Brandie Carlisle singing Hello in there. We were all in lockdown and the song hit me so hard I cried. Since then I've become a huge fan of his songs that span funny to tragic. If you can't appreciate his lyrics I don't know what you would appreciate. This from a huge Led Zeppelin fan. You need to check out hello in there Sam Stone and Summers end.

Kris himself admits he's a better songwriter than singer. And I wouldn't argue with a Rhodes scholar because Johnny Cash brings it in his version of this tune and it's the one most people are familiar with.

Johnny is the best thing to ever happened to music! Ask any musician! Bob Dylan's favorite song is Big River. But, if country is too simplistic to you, try the Rick Rubin produced stuff on American Recordings like God's Gonna Cut You Down or Delia's Gone. If you like the novelty songs try A Boy Named Sue recorded live at San Quentin. If you like songs with a meaning try Man in Black. Post Malone is doing a cover of Johnny's song Cocaine Blues.

Songs (audio) are great, but there's a reason why they have 'official videos' and it's because of them that you'd get the real understanding of the song. Yes, live are great too. If you're only getting your toes wet, then you've got a long way to understand this genre of music. If you intend to take the full plunge, then you'll understand what I mean. Country music is about life and every person can relate to just about every song. Try listening to Coward of the County, or how about Church Bells, Concrete Angel, Thunder Rolls, The Dance, or so many others. It's a deep and extremely old genre and if it hadn't been for country music, rock and roll wouldn't exist. Start with this video and follow the series and you'll understand what I mean. kzitem.info/news/bejne/x6ye06WakIqmpno
