Dyatlov was such a hateable character. Only other character I detested so much was Jeoffrey of GoT 😂

THE REACTOR IS GONE!!! dyatlov: he's delusional.
@riquelmeone
5 күн бұрын
From a very simplistic perspective, what did Dyatlov and others not believing that the reactor exploded think actually exploded? There were two explosions in short succession, one because of the pressure, the second, much larger, the actual thermal explosion (please correct my terminology). They all noticed both of them. What else other than the reactor could have exploded in this fashion? Surely, it cannot just have been denial and some Soviet-indoctrinated thinking that stopped them from having any reasonable conclusions. The only other logic-lacking thinking from human events in the last 40 years that comes close is the idea that OJ Simpson did not kill his wife. Completely unexplainable thinking.

The thing that doomed them was keeping the power so low for so long. Every reactor builds up poison when operating, but operate at a temperature hot enough to burn them off so they don’t affect reactivity. But operating at such a low power for 10 hours there was a buildup of poison in the core, which is why the reactor stalled, which is why the operators had such a hard time starting the reactor up after it stalled, which caused the explosion once all the poison had been burned off. They all SHOULD have known this.

In wonder how the real Dyatlov was. Was he really like that or is the show making him darker to create an antagonist ? Also, if I understand it well, the people working at the plant didn't knew about the az5 and rodes design flaws. So in their minds it was actually impossible for an rbmk reactor to explode. But it did.

If they had sent a grunt to drive the lead lined truck with the high level dosimeter they would have doubted the readings because he was obviously incompetent and didn’t do it right. You can’t pull that kind of nonsense with a Colonel General.

I am old enough to remember this. My great uncle was a technician at Wolf Creek at the time. My Dad and he were talking while watching this on the news. My Dad asked my Great Uncle how bad it really was and my uncle, never a man to use profanity without reason said two words-"They're Fucked".

Sadly, Paul Ritter, the actor that portrayed Anatoly Dyatlov, passed away in 2021 from a brain tumor. Unlike the very toxic Anatoly Dyatlov, Mr. Ritter was reportedly a very friendly actor that was very respected by his fellow actors. May he Rest in Peace.

I have a question about Nikolai Fohmin... he is frequently represented by himself and others as an expert on nuclear reactors. Multiple times he asks different people (in a condescending tone) how an RMBK reactor explodes as if he is so knowledgeable and informed of the way it works that its just a foolish suggestion. Yet time after time he is shown completely ignoring the blatantly obvious signs that the core had exploded and there were dangerous levels of radiation released. Dyatlov puking in front of him, the guy they sent up to the roof coming back with skin redder than the devils d**k, among other instances that anyone with even the slightest bit of knowledge would know what had happened. So was he not nearly as intelligent/qualified in the realm of nuclear reactors as he claimed? Or was he just scared s**tless/in massive denial because he knew just how horrible of consequences the actual truth carried?

As a control room operator at a powerplant, Dyatlov’s “a grid controller, what does he get off to?” Is exactly our attitude when they call us. Laughed hard at that one.
