Nice video. Informative, however the rod end of the gas springs/struts should be on top of the rod end per mfg instructions. It allows the oil in the cylinder to keep the rod seals lubricated. It's an easy fix, just release the catch on both ends, pop the socket off the ball, and flip them end-for-end. Best wishes.

I just did this mod on my 29' class-C, and it works just as described! The pump is beneath the bed, and prior to this mod the noise, especially when someone was using the shower, was incredibly annoying. Now, it is a barely perceptible sort of "hum". Thanks for this idea, it definitely solved our noise problem!

I’m gonna try this but will use upgraded stainless clamps on the flexible hose as I’m a little leery to use non rigid plumbing on the pressure side. I also noticed you put carpet under the pump to help with noise, I have some raised rubber bushings I was thinking of using under the pump feet. Thanks for the vid!

@bluehill1275

Brandon open a tap to bleed off the pressure and be ready with a towel. There will be a little water leakage when you remove the hose. If you're lucky you will be able to get a small container or bowl under your fitting to catch the water. If your RV is new enough to have low point drains on the outside, you can drain your system with those and there should be hardly any water leakage. I hope this helps you. :)

I am hooked up to a rv park's water, and I still hear a vibrating sound, every 30 seconds or so; what causes this?
@bluehill1275
7 жыл бұрын
Deborah Nickrand it sounds like your pump is cycling to keep the pressure up. Unless you have a serious leak somewhere, it might indicate that the check valve on your pump isn't holding. If you are hooked up to park water, just shut your pump off. To trace the problem, shut off the park water and see what the pump is doing. I suspect a faulty check valve, or maybe a piece of dirt stuck in the check valve seat.

We had installed where you originally did also and after seeing your video we now know we need to move the upper part to the back of the bed. Where we have them now the bed will not close at all. Taking note of your measurements and will try them as your bed and the split in the platform looks to be the same as ours. Thank you!

Thanks for the vid.. By chance do you know the signs of a water pump about to go out.. Mine is about 6 years old and is making a lot more noise than usual.. Really loud vibration.. Thx..
@bluehill1275
8 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason Rodriguez, I don't pretend to be an expert, but a pump that has been quiet and all of a sudden gets noisy could be getting into difficulty. However, it could also mean that one of the lines near the pump is touching something and the vibration is making your noise. Hard for me to tell from here. All RV water pumps vibrate. If it's still pumping good, I'd be more inclined to see if I could isolate the vibration. Hope this helped a little. Good Luck and happy new year!
@bluehill1275
8 жыл бұрын
Sorry Jason, I didn't answer your whole question. The best sign that I know of that your pump is about to fail would be if it's not pumping like it used to. You can buy rebuild kits for less than the cost of a new pump and it should be almost as good as new. Hope this helps you.
@jasonrodriguez637
8 жыл бұрын
+Blue Hill thank you. I zip tied some of the hoses together that were shaking the whole pipeline. The pump stopped working after it would pack the lines and would only turn on again once I shut it off and bleed out all the pressure. And then other times it would work fine.. I'll probably end up just putting a new one in there soon.. But thank you for your advice..

Very informative video. Oh yes this will definitely quite any water system. The loop of reinforced flex-vinyl tubing going into or out of the pump acts as a flexible shock absorber. This is the same idea used on commercial pumps either air or water to reduce or eliminate the hammering of the plumbing.

Kevin Gorman I'd be happy to Kevin. What would you like to know? The cylinders are 20 inches long (eye to eye I think) and rated for 120 pounds of lift. I'll measure where the top and bottom of the cylinders ended up and get back to you with that shortly.
@bluehill1275
9 жыл бұрын
Kevin Gorman OK the bottom of the cylinders are 19 3/4 inches from the very front of the inside of the space and 1 inch down from the top of the wood. These measurements are to the eye of the cylinder or the center of the mounting stud. The top eye of the cylinder is 26 3/4 inches from the very back of the plywood lid. My underbed storage measures 31 inches x 54 inches. Hope this helps, let me know if you need more info.

What kind of hinges did you use and any dimendioning on gas struts would be great. Love this idea for my kids room.
@bluehill1275
9 жыл бұрын
+JR Cherry The hinges were the ones that came with the RV, just a standard flat hinge. The RV is in storage, but I can check in a couple of days and let you know exactly. If you went to your hardware store and asked for Piano Hinge, that would work very good as well. It comes in 6 foot lengths and is very inexpensive. As for the struts, I used ones rated for 120 pounds and 20 inches of lift, as that was what was specified on Hatchlift.com. for what I was doing. If you knew the dimensions etc. of your project and went to the website, you would very likely find something that's pretty close to your application. Please feel free to ask further questions if you get stuck and I will be happy to try to help.
@bluehill1275
9 жыл бұрын
+ JRCherry I went and had a look in my trailer today and the hinges are just a pair of standard flat hinges, about 3" long, nothing special. The struts, as I said before are rated for 120 pounds of lift. They are 20" long, not 20" lift as I previously stated. Your local RV parts store or dealership, will have everything you need as far as the struts and the fittings go, or you can certainly order from Hatchlift.com, maybe for a little less money. Good luck with your project.
