Ugh I just saw my highschool wind ensemble play this last night at our OMEA convention where my Intermediate Highschool Wind Ensemble made it and I just absolutely LOVED this piece. My good friend played the bass clarinet solo at the beginning and it was amazing :)

And the final theme sounds suspiciously like Gilles' 5 1/2 symphony... I've lost all respect for Daugherty

I played the trumpet part to this as a sophomore in HS. It earned us a spot in the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic(2000). Absolutely wicked tempo but one of the most fun pieces to play. The last 20 seconds where the trumpets get to blast the upper register is great. Those high C's are chop busters by the end. Our HS probably played it better than most colleges could.

This piece has nothing to do with the water fall at all. Its all about the wax museums of murderers and notorious villians in history.

Here's my issue with this and several of the recordings of this piece on youtube, including Eastman's: has no one ever mentioned to these folks that playing the notes in proper sequence is not the same as playing the music? Music is an art of evocative gesture, not the mere replication of dots in slots. And TEMPO; too fast to express the weight & majesty of the thematic material---and rush, rush, rush; no control of the tempo. Come on people there's more than notes there; there's character!

Hey, I was just reading your comments about UWO performing for your school... I was principle oboist for that tour! The piece we played before Niagara Falls was called Doppelpolitik by one of our own Masters students named Jason Noble. Hope that helps you. :) Glad you like our performance!

This piece isn't that hard. The only hard part on first alto was the ending with the 16th notes of G-F-Eb-Db-B-Db-Eb-F
