The way I hull nuts is go to Hammons Nut Products website which is black-walnuts.com and go to the HARVEST tab. Then, go to the section under HULLING & BUYING. There is a place to enter your zip code and see if there are any locations near you. They will probably charge you a little for this but not too much. 20 bushels will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Otherwise, there a a lot of different methods you can view in KZitem.

The walnut has an internal partition and two major cavities - by placing the sawn grooves on each side of the partition, you can open the nut on each side of the internal partition and expose the two large cavities. This is done without compression force on the nut-shell and kernels.

Received my Walnut Saw this morning and cut 6 nuts right away to try the saw out. I got out 2 full halves on the 5th walnut and large pieces on the others. I can't wait to have time to do a bucketful and see how it goes with some practice. To anyone thinking of buying one of these- the quality looks to be great and customer service is great too. I was impressed with the set-up sheet (featuring a photo that I took and sent to David from Walnut Saw of a group of my walnuts) showing how the saw was setup for my size walnuts. I think the price is very reasonable in fact I would recommend buying one sooner rather than later as i suspect there is a better chance of a price increase than a decrease. I bought some extras and even got some extras I was not expecting. Thank you and Best of luck David Berry with the Walnut Saw!

@@Skinnerinnovations How much did you get when you were done?
@Skinnerinnovations
4 жыл бұрын
@@garynorden1117 I think the amount will vary with the size of the walnuts. The ones growing on our property are not the biggest at just over 1"to 1.5" in diameter (with the hull removed). I think I would have had maybe 1 or 2 five gal buckets full but I never measured them all shelled because I did'nt open all of them at once after sawing. I doubt I would recommend this as a money saver. you could buy walnuts cheaper and save the time. I bought the walnut saw because I want to process the nuts growing on my property and learn something new. Something that is very helpful is a GOOD pair of small side cutters to help get into the ones that don't open perfectly for removal of big pieces even after sawing- this will be allot of them but still much much easier than any other method I have tried. This year my walnuts seem smaller than last year so not sure I will be as happy with my yield.

How long do the blades last?
@walnutsaw
5 жыл бұрын
The sawing blades are each 30 teeth that are carbide tipped - they will last for thousands of nuts. It of course depends on the amount of cuts you are doing. For a normal home usage, I estimate they will last for 3-4 years and then you can either replace them for $20 for a set of two or better, faster and cheaper you can purchase a fine-grit diamond file and touch-up or sharpen them yourself in just a few minutes. A very good question - thank you . DHB

After learning where and what depth the sawn grooves needed to be, I worked through 3 developmental prototype machines and now I have a marketable product which enables the user to get larger kernels the easy way without crushing the nut shell and most importantly the kernels. Are black walnuts supposed to taste like bananas? I have never eaten them before and the first few I opened have a weird banana taste.... so wonder if this is ok or if they are musty or moldy. Nuts look good and I stored them dry, but I had soaked off the outer green /black wormy part in a bucket for a week or so in the fall. Now I will watch your video! thank you!

Hi Becky B, Black Walnuts do not taste like Bananas to me - rather they have their own distinct flavor. You must wait for 2-3 months for them to dry after you get the hulls off or they will have a very strong taste which I do not like. The nuts I picked up and hulled in late October of last Fall is just not getting almost perfect and at the peak of their flavor. Black walnut flavor seem to improve greatly when they used in baked pies and brownies. Have a look at my website (www.walnutsaw.com) in the "ABOUT US" section for a like to an outstanding pie recipe. That is a well thought out machine you invented. How do you keep from cutting into the walnut too far? Does it kick up a lot of dust?
@walnutsaw
8 жыл бұрын
+gig777 Thank you for the kind comment. To keep the two sawing blades from cutting too deep, there is a special made spacer that not only spaces the two sawing blades properly but has a special diameter that contacts the walnut when the nut is sawn and keeps the nut from being sawn too deep. There is a lot of dust associated with the walnut saw, fortunately, this dust is heavy and does not hang in the air. I recommend to use this in a shop, garage, carport and not indoors in the house. I place a fan approx. 4-5 feet away and blow the dust towards the rear of the saw motor and this keeps the working area clear. Again, Thank you
@walnutsaw

There is a set of "SPACERS" that come with the Walnut Saw™ - each has a different outside diameter. One of these spacers fit between the two sawing blades. The saw will cut into the walnut until the walnut contacts the spacer and then it will stop cutting and thus limit the depth of cut. If you have small walnuts you use a larger spacer so the walnut will not be cut too deeply. Conversely, if you have large walnuts, you use a smaller spacer and this will allow for deeper saw cuts. A SPACER SIZING CHART comes with the Walnut Saw™ to allow you to check which spacer to use.
