I feel that the Ultra Panavision 70 system has a better image then super Panavision. Besides being a wider image horizontally. Eather way whatever aspect ratio you shoot with, Panavision lens can't be beat.

This is fun, and you've got some sharp prints, but it's nothing like the stunning, immersive effect of the real thing, sorry. The fact is, sadly, that unless you are over seventy five, you would never have actually seen a film made in, and screened in, Super Panavision 70. Or Todd -AO. Or Cinerama. Theaters today aren't equiped with the projectors needed, or the screens to project on.

when digital cameras reach this level one day.. then, only then I can say it is finally done. We crossed the line, where digital is as good as analog. And yet.. in 2022 and even with the newest digital ARRI cameras.. they still cant do it. Thats sad actually
@bighands69

Film can still be used while that digital gap is covered. Another approach for smaller budget movies is to shoot most of the scenes in digital, then transfer to film and to be very specific when shooting scenes on film.

Nonsense. This has nothing to do with film, but with highly skilled cinematographers. All these movies would have looked equally gorgeous and then some if they had been shot by the same cinematographers on an Arri Alexa 65 digital camera. You go and watch Blade Runner 2049 by the great Deakins and tell me that isn't a reference for aspiring cinematographers for decades to come. And that was shot on 35mm digital in a mere 2.8K resolution.

This scene at 1:57 is really powerful and give me goosebumps, and a nostalgia feels that i never experienced. it shows how T.E Lawrence is walking alone in the middle of the desert at midnight. And also the vibe is like we never experience for, I mean just LOOK at that... So powerful man. U got the Dunes, the bushes, some little sandstorms flying, and a footstep, and then there he is, Lawrence himself. Gotta say this it THE best movie ever, no one can make a movie like this anymore. Hands down to Krishna Kumar, great editing, transition, All the best!

When you see it in a cinema theater in 70mm it really makes the effects look more special. Film as a medium has a really soft color grade so that there are lots of gentle soft differences in colors and are not harsh. Even CGI special effects when on film look amazing and so much more realistic than they do in digital TV and projector formats. The special effects in Vertigo do not look that good on a tv but on 70mm film they have a very dream like quality to them and look surreal.

@@bighands69 Vertigo wasn't filmed in 70mm. It was filmed in Vista Vision, a regular sized screen, high definition process that was at some point transferred to 70mm. Why I will never know. Vista Vision was problematic because originally the reels ran through the projectors horizontally, so special equipment was needed. The only plus with Vista Vision is that it was a very clear image that could be projected on any sized screen. It didn't last, because 70 mm was just around the corner.
