Heh... watching this and the Majora's Mask one got me to unsub from game grumps. I fundamentally care about story and being immersed in worlds. Arin doesn't give a shit and tries to make it a business. It's depressing and his opinions on Sonic make me want to gouge his eyes out because he fundamentally doesn't get it and doesn't respect people like me or my time. The anger isn't funny because Jontron would counter his stupid ass with an actually valid side. Dan just lets Arin walk all over him because he gets a paycheck for chatting shit. I'm stumped I let it happen this long. I fucking hate game grumps now. There, I said it!

What always bugged me the most about Arin's anti-OoT rants is how he always goes with "everyone says this game is great, but I'm criticizing it." Like he's always come off as he feels like he's THE critic of OoT. Uh... no. Everyone I know who loves OoT has always clowned on it, even me. Hell, in 2009 Nintendo openly apologized about the Water Temple.

"Arin has ADHD" is not a valid defense for him not remembering that he picked up the bomb bag. I say this because I have ADHD and I remember that shit. But you know what? It's fine. You know why? Because Arin's a toddler and he's still struggling with object permanence. So how mad can I really be?

While most of this video is a good criticism, the Forest Temple comparisons to the playthrough with 11 hearts and 500 rupees distract from your argument far more than they help it. Is Arin bad when compared to a total tryhard? Yes, but that is not the point (99% of the comment section is also worse than that), the point is that he is worse at the game than I was when I was 12 years old.

Bottom line: Nobody would be angry about the Sequilitis video if this was all just his opinion and he expressed it AS HIS OWN SUBJECTIVE OPINION. But it isn't, and he didn't/doesn't. The truly frustrating thing about this playthrough is that I do agree w/ Arin on some stuff. The eye puzzle at 12:30 is the perfect example. It made sense for the time to have a puzzle just be looking around & being observant, it was the first 3D Zelda & many people's first 3D puzzle focused game, but nowadays that sucks. Instead of having to look around to find all the pieces of a puzzle then putting them together in an intelligent manner to solve it, instead finding the pieces does solve it, the puzzle is missing the interesting portion. It's fair to criticize how the game holds up nowadays through a modern lens & I agree with Arin that in that respect these "puzzles" aren't engaging. Unfortunately Arin proves himself time & time again in this playthrough that he's flat out incompetent at 3D Zelda, that he blames the game for his own shortcomings, and that he's never given the game an actual fair shot as an adult which makes ALL his points look foolish. Dude genuinely hurt OoT & 3D Zelda discourse for both sides.

I think the biggest tragedy to me on this playthrough is how tainted Danny's first experience with this game became the longer it went. I don't like to compare GG to Oneyplays but I can't help but notice how similar Danny's and Julian's situation were with OOT. Both haven't played the game and are discovering through others. The mayor difference is Julian was able to enjoy the mysticism and whimsy of the game by Chris and DD. But while Danny trys to do the same in this playthrough, most of the time is shot down by Arin's complaining on the game or comments, and it feels he becomes to more wary not to step on Arin's toes. It really is a shame because it feels Danny's so open and interested in the game in the beginning of playthrough.

This comment section in a nutshell: "Arin should've played this single-player adventure game from 20 years ago perfectly using optimal strategies. He doesn't know the shield/deku nut meta"
@CQCorruptionQuest
2 ай бұрын
Bro using your shield isn’t a optimal crazy strategy that a newcomer even to the game wouldn’t know to do. That’s a basic thing the game teaches you. He just refuses to use it. Also deku nuts get showed to you early on they stun enemies. He just didn’t care to try it out. He just plays it like it’s a 2D game where he walks up and slashes and hope it works while barely shielding. Obviously when the game isn’t built to play like that he complains. It’s like me complaining that 2D sonic games aren’t designed around the homing attack and boosting like 3D sonic games are. Also he uses strategies that some people don’t know like being able to flip fire slugs with the hammer. But he refuses to do the fundamentals for the combat because “he knows what he’s doing”

I have my own complaints about this game that are very different from Arins. My issue is that I've played the game so many times that there are many parts I just dread doing. I don't like all 3 kid link dungeons, and I don't like the forest temple (but i do like phatom ganon), Pretty much all the parts of the game I dislike are in the beginning, so it makes new playthroughs hard to commit to, ive tried to start new playthroughs multiple times and always stop before even reaching the inside of the forest temple, which sucks because some of my favorite parts of any zelda game is sneaking through gerudo fortress, all of the side quests, and also the pre dungeon activities, like getting the red tunic and going through the volcano, or going into the well to get the lens of truth for the shadow temple

Since the discourse for the whole video he made is coming back. Most of his issues he has is he just doesn’t read anything while acting like he knows. Like for me and a lot of others I can play this without ever reading anything anymore and there’s still stuff I’ve learned from taking time to read stuff again. He however acts like he knows everything while knowing nothing and refuses to read and when he does read it seems like he’s just ignoring anything he read to still act like what he knows is correct.

You know what the most ironic thing about this playthrough is? Arin's failure to master the combat system and get on the same wavelength as the designers of Ocarina of Time's dungeons sometimes leads him to solve problems in very unique and interesting ways. That part where he fights the Iron Knuckle with bombs was actually really cool and a perfect demonstration of one of my favorite aspects of Zelda games: that they're flexible enough to allow you some creativity in how you approach combat encounters regardless of your skill level, instead of just having to "get good" like in Dark Souls. I was gritting my teeth through the whole Shadow Temple because Arin refused to take those stupid Hover Boots off for a single second, but in the end he did finish it even with that handicap. It just took him longer to do. Despite all those comments roasting Arin for solving problems "inefficiently", i.e. in an unorthodox and time-consuming way, it's not technically wrong for him to play the game that way. It's just his _constant_ complaining and nitpicky hostility toward the game's design that makes his approach intolerable to many people. In the process of trying to prove how awful Ocarina of Time's design is, Arin actually proved that it's great by succeeding at it despite his own obtuseness. Arin's relationship with this game is like Rock Lee's relationship with ninjutsu.
