Wish I could do this, brilliant. Looks like a job for pool sessions in 2024

What boat is that? Is it a Nigel Dennis design? There is no way I could do that in a Necky Arluk II or Looksha III.

It looks to me like a SKUK Explorer LV.

@@shish99 Its an aged SKUK/NDK Explorer (not LV) which fits well for paddlesr with app. 75 - 95 kg weight. This ship has too much volume for her weight. Normally she sits in an SKUK Pilgrim Expedition which fits her much better. ... to coin a phrase: dont´t blame the boat😉

I learned to roll my sea kayak with a typical paddle, blades at different angles. Had a great repertoire of rolls and tricks. Christmas I got a Greenland paddle and boy have I gone back to the bottom of the class. The buoyancy is nice but the narrowness and both blades on the same plane demand greater awareness and finesse. You learn to feel the water working with you. If you’ve never tried Greenland paddles, buy, make or borrow some as they do boost your water skills.

Very good technique! She definitely got the roll under control you can tell because she did everything on both sides even then she did failed she did it again and succeed. And also I learned a new thing then she tipped forward but don't no the name of it but I definitely gonna train on that.

Two of my favourite things :) I like throat singing in deep sea caves and rolling with my buds. vimeo.com/255203645.

I'm not sure how anyone can dislike this! Not only is Anke mesmerising to watch, the music is incredible. I've had my first pool session and loved it. Hopefully my new Greenland paddle arrives this week and I can try it in the pool. Walter, thanks for posting this and please let me know who is playing the music. I want to buy it! Cheers. Chris

Hi Christopher, thanks for your pleasant comments. It´s not a Greenland song but "Mongolian Throat Singing-Batzorig Vaanchig". I was looking for a suitable background music and found this on KZitem under: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kqij1WechJenmKQ For your further excercises I recommend you slow motion in all movements. This focus you on the right technique and avoid wrong force on your shoulder joint. Excercises for raising your hip flexibility is an other recommandation - e.g. daily exercises in Yoga, Chi-Gong, etc. Our favorite DVD is "This is the Roll" from Chery Perry & Turner Wilson. Think about an extra wooden paddle. It provides more boyancy and more flexability and makes rolling more easier. Cheers Walter

Hello Christopher, many thanks for your nice words. My background is the Feldenkrais-method to become flexible in my brain and not only in my body. All the rolls are in ourselves we "only" have to put the unnecessary movements out of the pattern and increase our sensitivity instead of increasing effort. Best wishes for you - Anke

Thanks for the reply Anke. How can I find out more about the Feldenkrais-method? I did my first roll last Thursday evening. A greenland layback roll and yes you are right, no physical effort required! I was so surprised when I completed the roll that I couldn't almost believe that I had done it. No one else in the pool saw it either. I tried twice afterwards but they didn't work! Just got to keep at it I guess.

Congratulation - great experience with your Thursday evening roll! When I do a very easy roll I remember the way it felt and I am searching for that feeling. In my point of view we have to analyse the details of the movement first but in the end we have to bring all the details together in one easy movement and therefore we have to feel the whole movement instead of thinking too much about the details. This is also what babies do when they learn movement. Best regards, Anke www.feldenkrais.de/nationale-verbaende

Great to watch! Massive respect! I'm going to start learning greenland rolls. Got my Gearlab Akiak Greenland paddle and Reed Avataq. Just got to get a pool arranged. Loved the music! What is the music, I guess its Greenland song. Cheers.
