Why not just build oil pressure with the ignition switch then start the car? Forgetting the belt or it falls off during a drive would be catastrophic for the motor. Just curious?

From what I can see, this does appear to be an older Melling chassis that had the Taurus body mounted on it sometime later. I think the 90-1 on the build plate likely means it was assembled in January 1990. So this would have been a chassis Bill Elliott drove back in his Coors days, not during the Junior Johnson/Budweiser years or during the McDonald's era when Elliott owned his own race team. I feel confident in saying this chassis was never raced in Cup with this particular body. By that time, the cars were required to have the "Earnhardt Bar" that runs from the center of the roof down through the center of the dash. Obviously that bar isn't present on this car. The interior being painted red is another indication this is an older chassis, as by the late 1990s, all of the cars had the same "chassis gray" colored paint. Regardless of the details, this is a very nice looking machine and it is nice to see it is in solid hands. I'd love to someday be able to find and purchase something similar.

Great information George. It’s pretty much the same conclusion I came to that the body was added to this chassis for the purpose of a Stihl show car.
