So, my interpretation of Stephanie Weir's character in this sketch is that she comes off as naive to what's literally going on right in front of her. But perhaps she may be smiling because she wants her family to be happy, even though they're not. Or perhaps, she may be smiling to avoid actually dealing with the trauma. This is an unfortunate reality for children of any age who live in dysfunctional homes.

My sister refuses to divorce her husband because her two young children deserve a two parent household and they love their father. But they literally have interactions like this every three weeks. In front of the kids, my heart breaks for those living in this reality…but dammit MadTv was brilliant

Whenever I see Ike Barinholtz, I think he simply _must_ secretly be a Wahlberg, like Nicolas Cage is a Coppola, and then I search the internet. I'm always wrong, of course, but I must've checked half a dozen times over the last 20-ish years. How is Ike Barinholtz not a Wahlberg? Just... _how?!_

hard to believe debra wilson had pretty much the same type of role in 2 of these and killed it both times, ike barinholtz broke so hard with the crying bit but he's good enough to really work it in. conversely, mo collins never broke and holy crap her vocal range was on full display here. meanwhile stephnie weir had both the easiest and hardest job in the whole sketch. easiest bc she didn't have to hold back a smile but hardest bc she wasn't allowed to have her performance vary at all.

I'm suprised the mom and dad stayed together for a long time despite their constant arguing. But despite that, their daughter remained happy.

Debra's face to all of this brings me back. Walking into a friend's house where his mom and her boyfriend arguing, and possibly making the same face trying to play video games with him.

The best thing about this one is that they have a comercial two way hinge on the door so they can slam the door in to keep yelling at each other

Unlike SNL, MADtv was not dependent upon "Guest Visits of Celebrities" or the latest pop bands. So, I remain grateful for their writers and social commentary.
