Thanks so much for this. Dyson was apparently not going for the "user-friendly prize" when they flung this assembly together. One thing's for sure, it'll be a cold day in hell before I'm ever tempted to buy a Dyson again.

With canister and filter off my dyson still shuts off after a few seconds. A repress of the button a second or more later and it goes for another few seconds. Is there anything you can recommend top check? Is there a thermal cut out on motor easy to get to

Great vid. I went a step beyond and figured out how to remove the attachment receiver with the flap to clean it out as well. The really cool part is that ALL the plastic non wired parts are dishwasher safe. ....

First of all...Thank you for this concise video. And before I go on, please don't ever use your Dyson for sucking up drywall dust...it will definitely clot throughout the unit. For those who are complaining about having no voiceover or details, if you're even remotely willing to tackle this job, you have what it takes to clean the parts and reassemble the unit...I promise. Next, I will add some of my hints: In addition to the small screwdrivers, I added a flat-blade scraper to use when taking the mesh screen assembly off of the head. This gave a little more purchase to the seam. At least for our model, you will need a super tiny STAR head for removing those 5 screws. They may have changed this from other models (we have the purple V6 animal from Costco). If you don't have this driver head in your arsenal, DON'T take your unit apart! Also, have a couple cans of compressed air on hand. While there are some of the major parts which can be washed, there are other spaces in the cyclone head where you will not want to introduce moisture. The white ring clip just pushes in slightly on each side as you manipulate the head off. I used an ice pick to push them over. Since those white rings stay in place, putting this part back together at the end is simple. I also grabbed a stiff-bristle round paint brush, much like the ones they include in kid's water color sets. The diameter of the brush head is maybe 3/8" and the bristles are about 1-1/4" long. They have the tension of a dish scrubbing brush, but more compact for loosening the soil from all the nooks and crannies. As you embark on taking off parts, just keep this video handy for starts and stops. If you need to snap some pics on your own phone for reference, it may help when you put things back. After you have the large parts removed, hand wash and dry then set them in front of a fan for a while. The removable top filter, if clogged, will need a thorough rinsing, but I recommend taking it outside and tapping it on a hard surface then blowing it from the outside to push through the debris. Just do this until the air blows clear. Move on to the cyclone head parts. I chose NOT to rinse these, instead just used the bristle brush and compressed air and some light taps to dislodge and move out all the offending material. If you have any parts that have water hidden inside, place those parts in front of a fan and consider waiting 24 hours before reassembling the vacuum head. I was confident that I had dried all parts well, and did not introduce moisture into the cyclone head, so I took my time reversing the process of snapping parts into place, screwing the five star screws back in and installing the rubber ring seal, carefully tucking it into place. The parts are made so they only install in one direction, so that helped. I made sure to clean behind the flap in the collection bin while it was removed and carefully blew out the impeller on the motor handle (that was the ONLY thing I did to the motor/battery head). I looked through the long vacuum tube and pulled out any hair and debris in the brush unit, blowing it out, as well. I saved myself the trouble of buying a new unit, sending it out, or dealing with Dyson. I hope I remembered to list all my hints.

Kind of confusing so I would stop at each step of the process until I got my dc35 completely taken apart. It helped identify why mine was stopping and starting. Lots of dirt inside the housing. Wasn't a problem with the filter at all. Thanks!!!

That cyclone assembly didn’t need cleaning as nothing was clogged. The area you opened is where the cyclones dispense fine dust, no air flows through that area, it’s normal for that section to be dusty. So don’t worry about it, it doesn’t affect the performance of the machine.

Excellent video! No, you don't need a voice over at all! I watched several similar videos with droning voice overs, and which lasted ten minutes, but still didn't manage to convey anything like as much as you have in a much shorter time! I will now be able to dismantle ours and stop it stinking the house out! Well done, and thank you.

david rawlings I also thought the video was perfect and to the people in the comments ask all these questions maybe you shouldn’t be opening your Dyson as they lack common sense.
