i absolutely love your videos and this analysis is just the cherry on top. it's so interesting to me, as a fan of blackpink and the girls individually, how each one of them are crafting their own artistry and searching for their own sound. i feel like lisa and her team did a great great job at highlighting her persona and it shows in "Rockstar" really well. from the sound and the lyrics, you can tell she was the focus, as in reinforcing her brand and showing us once again her impact. also, the switch from k-pop to pop in the charts, tell us a lot about what she's aiming for, and it's pretty interesting to see. it reminds me a lot of the topic being brought by blackpink's producer and composer, about what's k-pop really. not to mention that this is like a way of erasing that label, but it's like the doors are opening for foreign artists to also have representation in a more commercial, global market and that's what lisa does. thank you so much for the video and the analysis!!!

You forgot to mention that this MV was like a love letter to Thailand for adapting the country’s modern aesthetic and prioritizing the inclusion of her Thai peers in the involvement of the MV creation.

i think camila is just an easy to hate and criticize artist, especially w her complicated relationship with 5th harmony and the controversies that came when she left (mainly the fact that she was racist and allegedly hateful towards the other members) and then her relationship w shawn which a lot of people thought was pr. im not saying any of it is fair, but it plays a lot in the perceptiion ppl have of her, especially w how bad the marketing was for this era.

I don’t think this is fast fashion pop, to me that would be more stuff like, songs that sound like generic H&M playlist songs. I’d say this is pretty high quality material overall, it’s just that it wears its references on its sleeve too much, which for some can make it look like a cheap copy & unoriginal. If anything, maybe it’s expensive (the production value) & unoriginal 😅

I think aesthetically she’s heavily references Charli and Rosalia, lyrically Charli (+I Luv It), but I think the majority of the music itself, although a bit of Rosalia (same producer), is pretty different as it has more r&b/hip-hop influences maybe, American, Miami or whatever. I think the production is excellent mostly. The whole thing kinda gives me 2007 era vibes, a lot of these songs could make good Pussycat Dolls songs!

being from miami and also a latina i can 100% see where she was attempting to go with the album. the visuals were interesting because i don’t think ive ever paid attention to camila before this era. spring breakers isn’t set in miami but it’s florida and i get it neon, bikinis, liminal spaces so ill give it the pass. i feel like she should have taken it all the way there in the album. something’s were just still a bit to….safe? i agree B.O.A.T along with DREAM GIRLS (i didn’t love the speech at the end lol) and……I LUV IT were some of the best cus they were experimental. June Gloom reminded me a lot of Lana, which is fine she’s inspired many of the girls now. the beat at the end reminded me of 2016. the album gives me post break up partying in miami on summer nights with my friends and the spaces in between missing someone. i would have loved even more visuals, sadly Chanel num 5 and He Knows didn’t capture that too much for me. maybe an extended album trailer? i didn’t get any charli from this at all. if anything i can see the rosalia inspiration from the titles, visuals, etc. rosalia isn’t the first to incorporate her culture in her music and videos (and remember she borrows from ours and gitanas too).

Maybe not every single album or musical release from a popstar girly should be an "era" or framed as a cohesive multimedia/audiovisual project. I don't see Dua as an overly theatrical artist such as Lady Gaga and thus, I do not expect her to create a mini-universe or an experience that's obviously visually and sonically matchy-matchy, or even narrate a complete story from start to finish. I also disagree with Videogirl saying FN had more range than RO, like the former was almost always high energy, upbeat, dancy songs with an 80's revival style with very few exceptions, while the latter gave us a few dancy bops (without inspiration from 80's music) as well as a lot of heartfelt, songs with the slightest inspiration from psychedelic and ambient music, plus other songs that showcased Dua's vocal props and playful acoustic guitars. I think RO would've been more successful and/or popular if Illusion had been the lead single, followed by songs like These Walls, Happy for You and then Training Season and maybe Falling Forever or Watcha doing instead of Houdini, which felt very underwhelming as a the lead single.

i think the whole era just suffered a lot from right album, wrong time. it definitely has potential, and her rebrand looks to be a good thing for her, but the timing (with fhe concept and features) was just unfortunate. i think it has the opportunity to be a good album people will look back on and appreciate, depending on which route she decides to take

The idea of “fast fashion pop” is such an eye opening way of describing this. I’ve never thought of it in that way and it honestly reminded me of “Slut pop” by Kim Petras, which Is EXACTLY what this is. At the time when Kim released “slut pop”, I wasn’t sure how to describe what it was really giving, but giving it the term “fast fashion pop” is an excellent way to describe the unoriginal wannabe sound. From the short songs that have absolutely no meaning, to the STOLEN AESTHETIC/STYLE… fast fashion pop is a brilliant title that should be given to “Slut pop, Miami”

@@tears3194 i agree slut pop (the ep) was actually good in its respected way… but considering the fact that “Slut pop,Miami’ was supposed to be an album, i expected a full body of work with effort put into it. after listening to it, it just felt like a bunch of song thrown together, claiming to be “HARDCORE SLUT!”…. when really it’s just a bunch of short songs with repetitive lyrics produced by dr luke. (bringing up the fact it was produced by dr luke is what makes it worse)

let' be fr she is trying to syphon the gays (and yes I'm umbrella terming the whole LGBTQ community in that) who is actually one of the fiercest and more cash infused force in music / streaming atm, they can make or break your career by copying the WHOLE sonic soundscape (in vocals, the way they are processed etc,) to artistic direction, blatantly ripping off our queen Charlotte, the thing is like girl, pick a struglle, on your festival set u come up on bikes, are u trying to sell motomami or are u trying to rip-off Charlie xcx, the consumers are smarter than u think this feels bland, déjà-vu boring, this feels like my little sister stole my crop top, this is weird at this point. Let's be fr, the only reason the gays were interested in her is for her academic performance as a beard for multiple male singers in the industry. The fact is that actually she technically has a good voice, I mean she is not ugly, I'm sure she could dance if she wanted to, but like, gworl u are Latina, I want to see you with an orchestra idk play me some bossa nova type shit idk, ofc not all artist should be sterotytpically put in a genre boy their ethnicity but then again, When was camilla ever PC music, ? like be so fr, this feels like she has a quota to fill and some A&R Told her u better do hyperpop cause that's what selling today, I don't like it I'm not her for it, camilla STOP, go back to being a Latina godess so much material there I mean imagine her doing an acoustic ballad flamenco style for the theme of James Bond, or ANYTHING, anything else but crying the entire essence of other artist, BIG NO NO

Lorde is saying that at only 10 years old, she was told she ‘walks like a b*tch’. She’s basically highlighting the pressure put on girls/women at such a young age with how to act, look, present themselves. Then she says ‘it’s just self defence until you’re building a weapon’, explaining how the reason she may have ‘walked like a b*tch’ or come across cold is from a place of self protection and self defence due to the outside pressure put on women from a very young age. Hope that explains things 🤍🍏
