Quite odd that the Swedish-American population did not erupt in bigger numbers despite immigrants from Sweden arriving here in similar numbers than some other European groups. For example, say the Irish (2 million arrived in a few years vs 1.3 million Swedes). 35 million Americans have Irish heritage while only 3 million Americans have Swedish heritage. Even 5.5 million Italians came and grew. It's definitely strange.

Very interesting film 😊. As a Swede i could easily hear the different dialects. I speak Småländska myself but they have the "older version" like my grandparents spoke 🥰 Greetings from Sweden 💝

I heard Cry Tough in 1976, I think it was on Radio Luxembourg, the late great Stewart Henry show ( medium wave 208 ) got the album, ordered from my local record store and I have been a life long fan ever since. Thank you Nils.

This is amazing they kept it going so long. I am Swedish American but grew up in the Chicago area. There was a lot of Swedish and the older people spoke but knowing English was a big deal to them. Its was my dads grandparents that came but my dad never learned. My Moms parents came from Sweden and my mom spoke but my grandparents learned English and spoke very well. I was able to go to Sweden a few years ago. It was wonderful. My cousins were so hospitable and welcoming. It was a trip of a life time.

Great grandparents on both sides came to Minnesota from Sweden in the early 1900s, I always wish I spoke the language. It would have such a strange dialect and sound to it haha But I try and keep tradition alive and its fun to look and old pictures and heirlooms

My great grandpa forbade speaking swedish, so it was all gone by the time my dad grew up. I learned a bit after realizing there were speakers in my town and nearby towns in this area of MN. Aside from lefse and a few other foods and Dala horses we arent very connected to swedish stuff anymore.

I can't speak with authority on Swedish culture, but it is quite fun as a Norwegian to see people in the US with Norwegian heritage. Some of the culture that has survived doesn't exist in Norway anymore, and some seem made up based on prejudice 😂

Texas also has a big german community. Before WW2 it was taught in school and it was mandatory then. You had to have german. Towns in texas show thr heritage to this day. KAUFMANN is a good example. Although people there don't pronounce it right and doesn't know what it means..
