Beautiful restoration of a wheel that is very similar to what I have. The bobbin and flyer are the same as well as the castle style with 4 legs. It has the same leather key for the flyer also. The wheel is not fancy but has the same hand made metal part on the wheel to the treadle post. The woman I purchased it from said it was made by her father in Poland for her mother, who had used it up until a few years prior. It appears to be made of cedar as it very light weight. This wheel spins fine wool very well. I wonder if they are from the same region, because the pattern is similar.

It should spin quietly. You have some more work to do. I commend you for saving this old wheel.

I recently bought a double flyer flax wheel. Very old and in rough shape. It is missing parts. Do you have any info about this kind of wheel or where I might find help?

I ran into a very cool lady at Pennsic who (long ago) wrote a book "The Care and Feeding of a Spinning Wheel". Used copies are out there still, although she is trying to get it re-published. She used to repair spinning wheels, and really understands how they are put together.

why did you copy the worn out / stretched out hole on the leather flyer bearing?
@lynnaeite

This part is responsible for the spinning of the reel, so I decided to copy it because it was badly worn out

@@lynnaeite you did a very good job on the restoration, but why not make the hole in your new leather the same as the original hole would have been before it was worn out? it should be perfectly round and a slip fit on the metal.

Not a bad job at all. A lot of work. I'm curious why you replaced the leather bobbin with plastic? And did you replace any other bearings? Looks like there was a leather one for the wheel that you pulled out? Might make for smoother spinning. Also, the tension adjustment screw on the top of the maiden didn't look to be working, but that may just have been lost in the filming. I hate to sound negayive, but its a stunning wheel so I thought I'd give my tuppence worth of experience if it makes it nice to spin on. You've certainly done more than I ever have in terms of restoration, but I've spun on some cool old wheels. Congratulations on getting it going!

Thank you for your feedback! I replaced only the leather bobbin because it was badly worn out. The other parts were ok, so I left them as they were. I used plastic because it was the only available material for me at that time. You don't sound negative at all, I really don't know a lot about these old things, so of course, I understand that I could have made a couple of mistakes. Anyway, thank you for watching! ^-^
