So, how does an obviously educated woman with a Ph.D. start 30% of her sentences with the word "so?" It takes people right out of the narrative. Perhaps a class on public speaking? ..Joe

I think you should take into account that the first digital samplers were created at a time when this was completely new territory. These were used in a correspondingly creative way back then. Today, after a good 45 years, the music world has really had its way with it, and the wheel will not be reinvented again, especially since today's popular music and listening habits have little interest in it. But there should be exceptions... 😉

4 years later I make a kate bush song using UDIO, and Im nowhere near as good as either madonna or kate bush, but who needs them now that I have UDIO , and they are raisins by now.
One thing to note. Double sided CD's were available. As the tech was based on Laserdiscs which also were double sided. And, I think a double sided CD, assuming 74 min per side, would provide 74*2 min of runtime. But I guess 148 min CDs were kind of overkill. And single sided CDs were probably much cheaper to press. So double single sided CD became the more used option. But technically someone could convert a single sided CD to a 2 sided one with only 20 or so minutes on each side to match a vinyl album release. But that leaves a lot of unused space on both sides, you may say. Well. You could make it a double sided hybrid disc. Filling the rest with VCD music videos or CD ROM content. The mind boggles with the opportunities. :P

How boring this talking woman is. Does she think she is some kind of music scientist or what? I can confirm that Kate Bush created some very good music. Statistically speaking, very, very, very few women are among the top ten thousand composers if any at all. However 40 years after the seventies the music industry is dominated by so called "female artists" except "reggaeton" which in turn is even worse than the female production. Music have never been so bad in history since the women took over the music business. Other than Kate Bush, I can only mention Deborah Harry as equally good. Then there where many good female vocalists in the past, such as Tina Turner, or intrumentalists. Composing music is something completely different than that. As composers there are no women at all in the highest level. "Popular music" is an oxymoron. Music is supposed to be an art form. And art as such must be defined as the opposite of popular. Thats the whole idea with art. A priviledge for the rich, beautiful and educated. Not for the stupid masses. There is no such thing as "popular music". Its a terrible noise that sounds ugly. The stupid masses again, they are shit eaters no less, no more. Maybe not litterary.

Very interesting and informative - I'm learning to play keyboards and have some CMI Fairlight samples to play with. A small point is that one could say that there were no further discernable singles from 'The Dreaming' given that the two singles that preceded it, earlier that summer, were to be found included on it (the title track and 'Sat In Your Lap').

They (Madonna and Kate Bush) both had collaborators. You are poorly informed. Madonna had Pat Leonard. Kate had help from a bunch of talented musicians. Gilmour and Gabriel are among them.

You fail to recognize the difference between good and evil. Talent is present in both. Kate Bush was an artist who enriched our culture. Madonna was an entertainer who corrupted our culture. Not the same thing at all.

Just to point out, before Zoolook 22:53, Jean-Michel Jarre first bought the Fairlight CMI in 1979 which he started experimenting and used it in his 1981 Magnetic Fields album, and if you look at its over sleeve of this album, you'll see some a screenshot of the Fairlight waveform display that he used.
