My personal philosophy is 99% is all you need. You’re giving them your attention, your affection, almost everything you’ve got but that one percent is able to think about what you’ll do next and just breathe. 10 weeks is a long time to be active 24/7. Taking a tiny bit of your energy all the time is a great way to minimize your breaks and downfalls without effecting the campers.

Great list dude! As a fellow experienced camp counsellor I would like to add that being clear to kids is even better than being fun. They'll already think that you're the coolest dude around because you're their camp counsellor but being clear to them gains you alot more because they will respect you and the rules of your camp more. Lots of fun camping everyone!

I'm so glad I found this video! You have me so much encouragement you have no idea. I am about to be a music camp counselor for the first time ever next week and I'm excited but scared I won't be very good at it. Your video have me the confidence I needed to keep my head up! Thank you so much! :D I look forward to camp now! I will let you know how it goes :) I attended as a camper 4 years ago when I was almost 19 and I've tried to get in as counselor several years but it never worked out until this year finally!

In the Netherlands we play a game called 'pesten' the English varient is called Crazy Eights. I found the rules on Byciclecards this is the link www.bicyclecards.com/how-to-play/crazy-eights/ I use to play this a lot as a kid with my parents and other kids.

I know this video is a little over a year old now, but wanted to comment anyway. I worked a handful of summers as a jr/support counselor from 2007-2012 or 13. This summer, I'm going back to the same camp to be a full counselor for the first time! I'm pretty excited, but also a little nervous. This video really helped though!

hey Rodeo!! You're vids are awesome... these seem helpful for Americans though going to camp, not us international. I'm from England (above London so don't have to say more than that haha) and as will be in New York state and will be there for 3 months THEN 20 days travel to NY, Boston and then Canada - Toronto and Nigeria Fall - I'm still confused if I should bring a big suitcase (bought one especially when went to California last year) or just a big 20L bag, like the ones we take to music festivals here like Reading and Leeds/ Glastonbury. We're used to the mud, not the sun so worried that wheels will melt and also not pack enough as obviously won't be driving to US so the storage tubes and trunks aren't usable for me. Any other help will be appriciated, cheers

Hello! I would recommend the suitcase. I worked at a different camp that I had to fly to, and thus didn't have a car when I got there. The large suitcase was definitely a good choice, because I had to fit everything i needed into it for the summer. The wheels shouldn't melt. I would recommend some form of smaller 20L bag as well for day to day activities. If you have any other questions please let me know! Have fun this summer, and enjoy the 20 day trip as well!

Yeah I will have my rucksack with me that I will have for hand luggage for the 14 hour flight that I'll use, as well as have a small drawstring bag that I can take with me around for day activities. I'll be sure to get back to you if I have any more questions; thank you

As a camp director, I want to see MORE of these "what's in my backpack" videos geared toward staff. I'll make one for what us year-rounders carry! Also, thanks for packing the extra water for your kiddos. That statistic is pretty close to accurate. (We found 88% last summer and 92% the year before. We are all about that research.)

Hey! Thanks so much for the compliment! most camps will give you a schedule for your week, or will have a set daily routine. also most paperwork is typically due the beginning of training.
