Did this last year, and my lawn-side ball valve chamber blew out anyway. Luckily, it just so happens when I fully open the valve it covers the hole so I didn't technically need to repair it. I'll be adding insulation this year. Thanks for the video!

This video does not cover every case. Not all states and or water providers allow the drain valves. This video was shared in my area and has cause more confusion than help. You should have stated that not all installs are the same.

Hi Michael. True statement. A below grade drain and isolation valve is definitely better. This is how most valves are installed around Austin Texas so that's why we showed the process like this. I think many installers thinking is it would be better for the pvc to freeze than the entire RP.

Good plan. Just draining the bfp leads to the bfp freezing on the pressure side. Need to be able to drain both sides down below the ground.

Hi Justin! Thank You for your video! I have a Hunter PGV! I cleaned the exhaust port and that worked. For one cycle, the next day I go out and the valve box is full of water. I drain it and clear the port again. Same as before, it worked once and the box has water in it again! The water fills the box only when the valve is activated! HELP

It would be nice if the camera was positioned so that we could see what he was referring to. At least he refers to the spring and it's function. This component weakens with time and is frequently the real cause of valves continuing to pass water when they are supposed to be closed. He is right to say replace the essential components if you can get them - the diaphragm and white ring, however, can be cleaned, as long as they show no signs of damage. Always replace the springs if you can get them!

how would you change a diaphragm in a valve box that has debris in the valve body? I want to be able to properly flush a valve without filling the valve box full of water - valve boxes for the most part are not clean and things float around and get sucked back in. How would you properly flush a valve without filling it with water?

I replaced a diaphragm on my Hunter SRV 1" Valve due to the fact it was leaking. I installed a new solenoid as well. I removed the old diaphragm which was distorted with a new one and all was fine until the next morning when I woke up and the zone where I replaced the diaphragm was running wide open (all heads) with the sprinkler system shut off (unplugged). Any ideas?
@joequillun7790

I would guess something failed, (again) with that valve. Even tho you had the electrical portion shut off, the main water valve (I'm assuming) is loading that sprinkler valve, and allowing water past to the zone. Sorry, but you'll have to open it back up. (IMHO) Now I need to open 2 of mine, because they too are leaking. I had to a couple years ago, and didn't replace any parts. Just rinsed them off, and all worked, (for a couple seasons). Now I'll try it again.

Justin what is that white ring called where the diaphragm sits? I replaced the solenoid and the diaphragm and I just noticed that some videos showed the ring and my SRV valve did not have that when I removed it? I’m wondering if that is what’s causing that particular zone to continue to run🤔

It's easier to and cheaper to just buy a new one rather than trying to revive one that still leaks after failed repair. Also it's worth checking quality of water in water supply, rusty water likes to degrade seals lot faster than usual.

When you say it'll even dentation on the seat can you actually show it in the video? Since this is a video format. that would be really helpful to actually see what you're talking about especially where you have the valve out and it's not in a sprinkler box and you should be able to easily show it in a video format.

HI Justin. I took my 3/4 above ground Hunter anti siphon valve apart to clean it and to make sure that there wasn't any debris causing issues. My valve would NOT close and the second valve opened when the second one was supposed to start. I noticed that both valves were trying to spray water at the same time. While I had the valve open I took my compressor to clean out any debris that might be clogging the ports. I noticed that 2 very small screen fell out of the valve! I do not know where those tiny screen are supposed to be placed back into the valve! They're about the size of my nail on my pinky finger! I checked out the solenoid with a small battery and it operates correctly. Any ideas on why that valve would not close when it was programmed to close?

Hi Jay. It sounds like the solenoid is giving you trouble. Those plastic threads sure can strip out. We generally swap the whole top of the valve to prevent these types of issues. You should be able to get a new valve to gut for parts for under $20 which IMO would be your best bet. Hope that helps.
