One great issue for Asian artists in classical western arts is getting expression out of their technique. Whether piano, ballet or violin, it's not just about technique.

Actually, I disagree. Asian artists are great when it comes to technique. As for expression, it's not that they are bad, but they often don't understand the context in which a work of art has been created (whether it's dance, musical composition, song or whatever else). For example, a big chunk of art and music in the West has been influenced by religion, literature or mythology, and in the West we understand them almost subconsciously. But for someone who has never been to a church, Mozart's mass probably won't have a profound meaning like it has for us (even if you are not particularly religious you know what I mean). Of course, one can learn these things no matter where they come from, but it certainly is an issue.

I find it said that she is not happy or satisfied with her dancing. She is extremely good, her moves are extremely beautiful, she is extremely talented, but I wish she could learn to appreciate that. Appreciate how far she has come and how proud she can be - there are many people who dream of being like her but I am sad it doesn't have that much meaning to her. She dances so amazing

eliza beth As a fellow artist (but not in Ballet), I can understand this. What she means is that is she does feel satisfied she would not push herself harder into her work and practice. There is a saying 'satisfaction is the death of the artist'. I too feel this way, and it pushes me to want to improve every time. I hope this makes sense! :)
