What a fantastic cast. Terry Thomas and Peter Sellers were brilliant in this classic British comedy film. ‘What a shower.’ An unforgettable phrase from the one and only Terry Thomas.

This wonderful film's sheer GENIUS I have always found quite overwhelming....and 'sad' for we'll never again see the like. Roy & John Boulting had a truly amazing 'eye' but now the 'kaleidoscope' of life has now taken on a pretty unsavoury focus....due in no small measure to Ken Tynan's 'eff' word in April 1965. PLUS atop that a relentless cynicism which drags MOST cultural attempts into a gutter of smut and largely 'wall to wall' depravity. Doomed Mr. Manwaring.....DOOMED I say! LoL!

Behind the comedy of this film lies the truth that the unions were in constant conflict with management. They got too big for their boots, with successive governments cow towing to them and failing to stand up to them for fear of industrial strikes. Until Thatcher took on the miners and Scargill that is.

Notice how already, by the late 1950s, the union has an open door. Kite can walk straight into management (unannounced) and get whatever he wants, and no matter how contradictory. But ideology works both ways. Globalism, anyone?

.....and the union shoots itself in the foot. The writing for this film was absolute genius. Everything backfires on both union and management, all their downfalls being of their own making. I loved Sellers in so much of what he did, but this was (in my opinion only) his greatest acting role.
