Hi, I had one in mexico-yellow color.I bought it, to impress my girlfriend.Big mistake.I wanted a BMW motorcycle, but she didn't liked the idea. So, I bought a used car for 8.000 German Mark...Had a lot of problems and it look like a fast car..but, never ride in high Rpms..the gearbox must be handled with special care. After 1,5 years, I sold it to a fried..for far less money. Today, I drive with a Mazda MX5 since 2002. That car was bought new, I have some good memories with the Spitti...Take care..!!

It would run cooler without that huge license plat holder in the front. Too bad about it having a Weber DGV but otherwise a nice car. What did the 5 speed come from ?

I was 9n the Navy stationed in Edzell,Scotland. I bought a 1974 Spitfire 1500. Mine was Carmine with tab interior. I Dover her all over the UK with multiple trips to London. Brought her back to the states. Drove her from NJ to FL back to NJ the across to San Francisco on I-80. Had her in SF for just over a year. Traded her in 1976 to get a Capri II 2.8 S.

I've owned a 1, 67 camaro RS/SS 2, 68 El Camino 3, 87 Porsche 911, Carrera tanga 4, 98 corvette 5, 67' corvair convertible The only car I miss is my 74' spitfire It was just soooo much fun to drive, easy to repair, looked so good, I really did feel like I was born to drive this car. If you know a little about working on cars get one of these and you'll fall in love with it

The fan has no shroud. It's normal to change this to electric fan/s and voila, problem solved.

Had a '76 from new. 1 change from stock: replaced the horn with air horns. It was one of the smallest cars imported to the US at the time.

Triumph owner if you're watching - I GUARANTEE you're putting premium in that car. I had that weber updraft - premium fuel evaporates right out of the bowl and becomes a nightmare to start just like she's saying. If she puts regular 86 octane fuel in in, she'll never have that problem again.

An option that may help with the over heating is to replace the radiator with an aluminum model that's using an electric fan system triggered by a thermostat. They work much better and aren't dependent on the tiny engine fan. I'd think the five speed is part of the problem too. You've lowered the RPMs at highway speeds which slows down the engine fan when you need the most cooling. Cool car. I drive a 79 spitfire myself as a daily driver in North Carolina.

Back when that car was made in the UK, air conditioning in a car was almost unheard of. You were talking top of the range jags and rovers, only.
