As a point and shoot, the phone will be better yeah, because it processes the picture. Process the RAW file from the RX100 in Lightroom and it'll blow ANY phone camera out of the water. A 1" sensor is a 1" sensor. There's no cheating physics

This is exactly why when I went to Tokyo, I brought my iphone and a Google Pixel to take pics. So much easier. Now I have a Samsung S22 Ultra which is even better and I can share images through Google Photos easily. You cannot do that even if you had a Leica and I don't even use my Leica, A7r, A6200, RX100 much anymore. For walking tours, a GoPro and/or DJI Pocket is perfect.

This is not a good comparison. Images from Samsung are heavily processed by phone and you compare them to regular shots of camera. Can you do one shot with Samsung and second with RAW on rx100 and than post process RAW (sharpen, correct shadows, dynamic, colorize) and than compare.. It will be night and day. And if you zoom in it will be even more. Samsung is good for amateurs who knows nothing about post processing.

Sounds like a lot of extra work, money, and luggage for a regular person... There's a reason why phones killed cameras... the reason why most people take a picture is to remember something more or less... also a trading why poloroid is still around with its tackiness

If I only saw this before, I wouldn't have invested my money in a Sony RX 100 M7. It might be superior on paper, but for a user who wants it to be accessible at any time and shoot pro level shots, the S21 or S22 ultra might just be the answer. The results are quite comparable if not better in terms of resolution, white balance, night mode, video and clarity.

Don't feel bad. I have the S21 Ultra and just picked up the RX100 V6 used and it takes much better pictures than the S21 U. I think it is on par or better than the OMD E-M1 I had.

It depends what you mean by "pro level shots" - because if you mean the level of control and range that a proper camera can achieve, then even the best smartphone camera is a joke. Smartphone cameras have fixed apertures, have much smaller sensors and have silicone/plastic lenses. They also rely way too much on post-processing to make your shots look good. If you want to actually pull of shots comparable to DSLR/Mirrorless (e.g. shoot raw, shoot manual, want Bokeh/depth of field, proper long exposures etc. etc.) the RX100 or something similar is in an entirely different class to even the best smartphone camera. Even if you shoot raw, smartphone cameras don't capture nearly enough detail to do even half of what you can achieve with a decent 1 inch compact camera on lightroom/photoshop. If you want a "point and shoot" that produces nice looking photos and rely on just the algorithmic post-processing, yeah your higher end smartphones will do just fine. Also, with the RX100 line newer isn't always necessarily better - although the tech has improved generation on generation, from VI onwards Sony (controversially) sacrificed max aperture for a longer zoom. IMHO the older RX100s are much sharper and produce better shots if you don't need the extra zoom.

@@JimIBobIJones don't lie I have rx 100 Va and it can produce nice photos but it's not sharper than vi and without proper zoom it's waste of money. Just get s22, s23. No value to spend that much on rx 100. I'm gonna return it asap
@JimIBobIJones
Жыл бұрын
@@esterix101 You are entirely missing my point. Its about real photography and not point and shoot results. The RX100 is much sharper in RAW, not about post-processed sharpening which destroys detail. Smartphones produce "better looking" photos with way too much post-processing - and they can look better than JPEGs shot straight out of the RX100s. The point of the rx100 isn't to shoot JPEG though, its to shoot RAW. Even the best smartphone camera has shit RAW capability - because the sensors are too tiny to capture any decent detail. The point of the larger sensor and a variable aperture is to capture more detail with better control so you have more to work with in lightroom, photoshop C1, Luminar etc.

Thanks for doing the comparison. I've been using my S21 Ultra for photos. I used Nikon SLR"s in the past. I can't carry all the lenses, etc anymore. Was thinking of getting the Sony but after this video I'll just use the S21. $1,300 isn't worth it. Thx.

Is your dog gray or brown? That would be the test. Also, both failed quick-walk miserably. The rx100 is twice the price it should be. I'd never lay out $1300 for a pocket cam, or a camera phone for that matter. Thanks for the review. I'm unsold on both.

In Sony processed jpegs . . . .maybe but what I see is mild underexposure . . I think that the comparisons are poor due to that issue. The Samsung pictures look horrible at any projection beyond the phones screen. This is fine as long as you don't want anything inlarged.
