What keeps it from peeling? The sealer? I just painted mine, but it seems like it scratches easy
@veterancollision
19 күн бұрын
Prepping on the panel must be done correctly with an abrasive (sand paper). It creates small scratches for the material to bite on to. The finer the sand paper obviously the finer the scratches. Coarser grit papers usually need primer. Primer then gets sanded finer and it gets sealed and top coated. The peeling can happen for a few reasons. Common ones would be the panel isn’t prepped (sanded) properly and the material doesn’t bite or there is too much time in between certain coats while spraying and the prior coat cures too much before the next coat is applied and doesn’t bond to it. Hope this explanation helps you understand peeling. Easily scratching would have to do with the clear coat. After it is completely cured I recommend putting wax on your panels.

Do you have a contact email to answer a few questions with pictures?
I have a 1991 S10 and I’m in the middle of sanding it down now it was black but I want to do a color like this but don’t know where to start because I don’t have a shop to put it in
@veterancollision
Ай бұрын
Do you have a garage or somewhere else to spray it that you could use a box fan? I wouldn’t do it all at once if you’re trying to do it on your own outside of a shop. Maybe start with the tailgate off the truck and if it comes out the way you want then do the bedsides. Then work your way forward.

Quick question first thanks for the video brother , do you sand betwen base coats or clear coats?
@veterancollision
2 ай бұрын
You can “nib” trash through the coats of base after enough time has elapsed to flash or dry. This is solvent based color I’m spraying. Once 1 coat of clear is applied there’s no more sanding until after it’s cured. Hope this helps and thanks for the view!

Hi. I love the color. Can you tell me what is that color? And it’s is more strong to be durable in Québec temperature? Thank you
@veterancollision

The color is Dark Blue Metallic. To be honest I’m not sure how the clears would hold up in the Québec temps. I would think it would hold fine, but living in the south I’m not familiar with the extreme cold effects on material.

Find a local independent shop, and ask how you can help. Start now. Part time, whatever you can do. I was taping cars sitting on a 5 gallon bucket before I was 9. I sprayed my first car at 15. You get better with time and practice and if you started now you’d be better than most by the time you were in your late 20’s.

Painted blue 3 coats. clear 3 coats.What is the amount of each do I need to paint that same color. It looked like my new pickup . It looks great.

Thanks Eddy! 1. The black was a wet-on-wet sealer 2. Two quarts of basecoat (unreduced) 3. 1 gallon kit of clear. Use the same reducer for the clear and the basecoat. Good luck my friend!

The factory orange peel you mentioned. Does that only occur in the base coat? When do you buff out? Is it something that always occurs?
@veterancollision
9 ай бұрын
Peel occurs for a few reasons. If I was looking to avoid orange peel I would water block when prepping the panel for paint. Generally it occurs when spraying the clear though. You can wet sand the peel out after refinish and buff it out. That involves a ton of work though. Hope this answers your question.

How long do you expect that paint last because it looks good
@veterancollision
11 ай бұрын
It depends on how it’s maintained. Garage kept, waxed, properly washed, etc. will extend the life. Left outside to bake all year round and in the weather will definitely reduce the life expectancy of the clear. I don’t spray Euroclear consistently enough to know how long it’ll last.
