Probably the best scene in this movie. One of the most meaningful for what the story is trying to portray. And one that affects Jonas the most out of all except maybe the first real transfer he receives. A good performance by Jeff Bridges.

Based on a book... but did they leave some key components out? Because the logic of this world, the way it works, is very silly.

After reading the book in 8th grade for a class assignment, I was intrigued. I'm now a highschool sophomore and have read the other three books. The ending to this series was beautiful, and I highly encourage everyone who sees this comment to look into the Giver Quartet.

I love that the actor is actually able to play the piano, they don't have to do a bunch of cuts only showing the actor's face and then a different person's hands playing the piano.

The ending in the book is actually very dark. When the past receiver was released all of the memories she held were transmitted to the populace. Major social upheaval. Pay attention to the giver's words when he sends Jonas out. There is no destination set and no future plan. The Giver's character shifts when Jonas approaches him about fixing the dystopian society. The ending depicts hypothermia. They were sent to die. The Giver's loyalty is actually unknown. We don't know if that barrier was part of the climate control or if it was a failsafe to keep the escaping memories out. The book doesn't give a happy or sad ending. It just ends at the cabin.

One morning, as chill as any other day on its first hours, I wake and get up to watch some morning t.v. like any other weekend. I choose my fav channel to watch something, whatever the local t.v. allows with its budget. It shows me an already started movie. I decide to watch, since the lack of colors like those old movies catches my eye, as well as the high definition images that tells me this is no ordinary black and white old movie, but one with a deep message. The film had no title, so I had no idea on what or where to search or how to share what I just saw. Years later, this movie came back in my memory, so I just search with my only plausible clue: "The Giver". Found out the movie's title, where to watch and what it's based on. This is the impact it had on me. Completely burned in my core memory.
