I think the splitting of the atom was child's play compared to composing and performing this masterpiece!

A tad slow for me... Some odd accent choices too. I guess after you've played this piece for decades, you look for unconventional accents (and tempi) to keep it seeming fresh & interesting.

Bravo bravo bravo bravo.

Unfuckingbelievable! Mr. Ohlson tells us a story of young love, love lost, and love regained. Being able to tell a story is what makes a performance exceptional. I also admire the way he reinterprets a piece over 50 years. Listen to his recording from 1970, the year he won the International Chopin Competition. It tells a different story, equally valid.

I love the tempo the clearst Ballade I've hear so far.
@jasond4466

In my mind, a Ballad was always something slow, emotional, romantic. I think that this version is how a Ballade should be played. These days, people just want to play everything at lightning fast speeds, and it's just impossible to enjoy and feel the music. This is really so exquisite, what a performance!
@Rach-Fanatic

I disagree, this ballade is played to slow. It’s a story, and life doesn’t always go slow. Hofmann and Hambourgs performance of this are the best.

I've heard this by everybody so it's nice to hear it played so beautifully by Garrick. Everything he plays is superb. I love this piece but I still crash and burn in the coda. Oh well, maybe one day. I couldn't live without the 4 Chopin Ballades. Every one is a gem even the 2nd.

I like that one can see the impact the piece has on the pianist himself; the effort he puts to make the emotions reach the audience doesn't leave him untouched, and that impact changes while he is playing. It is a unique opportunity, and a unique performance 🎉

Verily! This is the true narrative [about the story of ‘Îsâ (Jesus)], and Lâ ilâha illallâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh, the One and the Only True God, Who has neither a wife nor a son). And indeed, Allâh is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. Ali ‘Imran 3:62
