Amazing how they rejected Jim Carrey and said yes to a shocking amount of unmemorable people over the years!

Not being on SNL was a blessing, He would’ve be been stuck there and not have all the amazing movies he made.

I'm drinking whiskey crying in laughter. It was probably Jim Carey's best ever!!!!!!!! You can hear them laughing instantly before he even said anything. What the faaaaaak were they thinking? Someone with a small penis got way too intimidated! Oh my God!!!!

I think I see why. He was too heavy. Not physically but his talent and appeal. Comedy needs a quick shallowness and Carrey doesn't fit into that. They probably thought, "He's really good but he's more of a solo dramatic actor and we need a team ensemble player". Also, before Carrey, physical contortion comic style had not come into vogue yet. Carrey started all that with "Ace Ventura". It wasn't till that film that Hollywood restored its respect for what was seen as an archaic comedy style that goes back to Buster Keaton. Fate intervened here and SNL made the right choice.

I've never seen On Golden Pond but I remember it being a big deal when I was a kid. I remembered Henry Fonda enough to suddenly realize who Jim Carrey was reminding me of here. Then I put two and two together when he nailed the Katharine Hepburn. I Googled OGP strawberry, and there it was. My point being, his impressions were so spot on, I knew what he was doing without ever having seen the real scene.

Those skits were not a good fit for SNL. If he had done some of the stuff he did later as Ace Ventura, he would've raised SNL from the grave.
