Hello, my wife has a CTS 3.6 and we are getting whining from the rear diff. Is it the same as the V?

I just finish doing the install. The most difficult part for me is the 14mm nut on the u bolt that's fwd inboard closest to the diff. There is very little room for a wrench. The big lock nuts size is 1 1/2" by the way. For the bushing bolt, I had my driver's side axle out already, so that made that part easy for me. It's difficult to do this on the car! It's better if you have rear cradle out to do this. I wish I did it when I had mine out. Over all this is a very good product and feels really solid now. I am very happy with this diff brace. Thanks Gen1v!

If I’m understanding correctly, if I add the diff brace and all the bushings it will either stop? Or help the diff from exploding?

Obviously then there should have been two front mounting bushings instead of one. Cadillac forgot how to make cars decades ago when they decided they can reinvent the wheel. Of course that cannot be done.

For those wondering, I installed this in July of 2023 and this video helped me immensely. I got both the bracket and the anti-wheel hop half tabs. The bracket was somewhat tedious to install as warned in the video, but everything is well explained in the video and as long as you follow it, you won't have any issues. I didn't really abuse my V to begin with so I probably didn't have anything to worry about, but this additional insurance is nice. Interestingly, the most difficult part for me was aligning and fitting the u-bolts through the bushing carrier. There's not a whole lot of space for the one closest to the diff to work with. The large bushing bolt was actually not that difficult for me, but it did take me a few tries. Road noise isn't bad and vibration is not bad either. It IS an absolute must to take the exhaust off. Sorry ya'll, there's no getting around that. Good news is, it's only four bolts and those rubber hangers that are fairly easy to manipulate. Off hand subject, and unrelated to this product is that when I had the exhaust off I had the opportunity to install Revshift's Transmission bushing and that ABSOLUTELY added a ton of road noise while marginally improving shift feel. If you have that and don't like hearing the noise of your drivetrain and gears whirring, I'd pass on installing it.

Why not install that big bolt into the eye assembly loosely, then place it up into the frame with the U-Bolts and put the nuts on.. THEN install the brace on the diff and feed the large stud into the diff brace. Seems that would be easier than fighting that bolt against the CV..

I can't believe this just popped up while playing around. I purchased one a few to 4 years ago. Since added new engine and headers clutch. Dyno 545 tuned for the road. Also Creative Steel whider sway bars or whatever they are so I can run fatter meats. I have zero wheel hope in any gear. I also buy all the half shafts I xan find. That's my weak link. Cheaper than a 9 inch. Fun car and I give you ALL the credit. If you ever need a great review let me know. Sadly most of those cars are probably dead but not mine. I'd like to see how much power I could throw at it before catastrophic failure. I believe we've corresponded and you moved up to a Gen 2 but I like my old car. Not much of a sleeper with the wide tires and loud exhaust. Get plenty of thumbs up and haven't lost to a demon yet. Most won't race me as I'm so loud or they are tired of getting beat? Glad to see you still doing your thing. Thanks Tom Rivera

Did you have any other mods done to the rear in general? Poly bushings or aftermarket arms? Etc? Seems like you had pretty minimal hop, I assume from the 8.8 bracing and the TAB?

Hello! Recent 2004 V owner here. This will definitely be a purchase of mine within the next year or so. For the bushing bolt at 9:21 is there a reason the threaded side on the bracket couldn't be switched to the other side therefore making the installation of the bolt less frustrating? :)

Great content Mark! I’m a new owner of an ‘05 CTS-V sporting the 5.7L LS6 and want to do the 8.8 swap that CS offers. I was curious if you had any similar packages available or if CS was the best option available. I’ve read a lot of phenomenal reviews from fellow V1 owners that’s done the 8.8 swap, but wanted to see what your thoughts were.

The 8.8 kit is great! CS sells a complete package which is nice. Todd Norford on Facebook sells a little nicer bracket package for the 8.8 (cheaper too), but he doesn’t offer the full kit so you have to go get a diff and axles and driveshaft separately.

looks like I am subscribed. Should we think about me updating my rear diff brace. I'm the guy with the original one you made that bolts to the bottom frame. I do have all bushings upgraded from creative steel. they are 5 years old maybe more but the red hard ones. I don't know that's why I'm asking. if you thought it would be better and wanted to sell me the top right brace/ bushing and if it can be welded onto your original brace I'd be happy to do that as the original setup always gets lose on me. I'm about to weld the damn thing but then I couldn't takeout my exhaust I think

Quick question is the bmr trailing arms worth buying for my 2005 ctsv does that help with some of the wheel hopping issues because I brought the pinion support because the items wasn't expensive will these two thing I brought help car some I know I need more things to help my car with this wheel hope issue
@markwoodruff2329

The BMR trailing arms are good, and they help. The pinion brace though, I would not use that. I would put in a good front diff bushing for like $80, my diff brace, and either some cradle bushings or my trailing arm brace and you should be pretty happy that a lot of wheel hop will be gone.

Its a stronger carrier case ,differential, with a tons if gear ratios. The bad news its it still hangs from the same squirrelly factory subframe in the same terrible mount locations (geometry). Stronger diff, still wheelhops.

Not a kit, but I believe you can buy the shims to reset your gear lash. This diff is odd though, not something your everyday local car shop will be familiar with.

I have two V1 diffs, a Gen2 and a Gen4. Gen2 was making a bit of noise, and I couldnt get a brand new diff (none avail) Settled on a Used Gen4 which makes more noise than my Gen2. There is a lot of play. Any way to tighten it up, or is it garbage? $6000 9" is just too much money.

Just install aftermarket axles and eliminate wheelhop. Several mfrs make them. Did it to my '05 with a maggie on it. Zero WH.
@rand49er

Solve the wheelhop and the differential won't see the high-load spikes that is caused by wheelhop and breaks the Getrag diff. To solve the wheelhop, you have to get axles with a different (i.e. much higher) torsional spring constant to prevent the axle windup and release. I bought DSS axles and installed them on my '05 CTS-V (supercharged with an MP112 Magnuson supercharger and tuned to 472 rwhp) and had zero wheelhop. I could burn tires through 1st gear bouncing off the rev limiter and burn through 2nd gear. No wheelhop. No diff failure.
@chrisreynolds2410

Question, shouldn’t the 05 CTS-V give more horsepower especially with a supercharger? The car comes with 400 hp so the supercharger only got you approximately 70 something hp. I thought they add 150-200 hp. That’s a lot of $ to spend for a seemingly minimal return. I’m looking into supercharging my V-1 is why I asked the question.

Why tf would they design it that way? Offset the mounting point like that, just seems like a terrible idea, and what are you saving by doing so? Like an inch of incursion into the cabin?
