I always was wondering if a b-stall might help in such sucking clouds. Thanks for posting! Great example. Stay save :)

@lighthunt

No. Than would not be a good idea. B-stall means 0 forward speed, you don't want to initiate it from higher speed than necessary. Most probably the horseshoe was caused by pulling the B lines down too much.

Rain clouds = danger, cumulus = fun 😂 kzitem.info/news/bejne/r4WXsXeIb4KZg6A Wow, you made a horseshoe while reopening the wing. If you pull the A1 left and the A1 right slowly down together, then you get a horseshoe. Both wing sides fold forward. To reopen the wing, let the A's go and little brake. Not so dangerous than a B-Stall in turbulences. 😊
@lighthunt

Most probably the horseshoe was caused by pulling the B lines down too much, not during reopening. I hade to cancel B stall immediately when horseshoe appeared, leading to "not ideal" recovery

Thanks for posting this I have studied this paraglider problem for some time as I'm learning to fly. This is the first mention I have seen of a tangled line after a collapse and recovery. There's a saying if it will launch it will fly. If you get some problems off the surface from the start you should be able to fly down and land it. Now a new thing if it'll fly it will land.

Pretty good recovery actually, you stopped the twist and allowed it to gain airspeed at the right time. Although the most effective way out of the suck realistically is to just stall it out and tailslide down, weightshift out of the center of the lift and when you're out, let fly! Speaking from experience. People talk about all the creative ways to lose altitude, tailside/backfly is the best if you are comfortable with the configuration, plus you have great directional control.
@Catpanl

The outside A line went slack during collapse and got hooked on the speed bar pulley. The pilot was panicking and did not see it so he kept trying to recover the collapse but it was impossible because he needed to free the right A line. Essentially he landed with one big ear pulled in. Good control all things considered. Lesson for the rest of us to check lines are free after collapses. @2:23 you can see the outside red A line is pulled down and caught on something creating the big ear effect.

Big ears + spiral is a stable and efficient way of loosing altitude. Or collapse one side (pulling A) and turn on the other side is efficient too. B stall may results in strange things 🤪
@lighthunt
Жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for commenting. It depends on glider. Manufacturer of my wing do not recommend spiral on big ears at it makes extreme high load on central A lines,( there has been cases where A has been torn away on some wings). B-stall still effective and recomended (on this type of wing - Eden 5, Eden 7 ...) In my case, I have probably pulled B lines a little more than I should.

Robert himself grabs the right middle A line in the video at 0.08! This creates a one-sided flap / collaps and the A line gets caught somewhere on the harness or on the belt at the pulleys or lower. Did you want to target a one-sided flap (big ear) ?
