Every part of that engine looks awesome apart from that wobbly plate at the end of the flywheel.

There’s no luck necessary to find an engine like that, engines are for sale in the United States at lots of places. You must go to engine shows there are a number of them in Virginia and certainly in Pennsylvania and actually across the entire United States. That’s where you’ll find a lead or an engine that you might like to purchase you have to hang out where the engines are. One of the best places to go is the Coolspring power Museum. The museum is located in Coolspring Pennsylvania between Punxsutawney and Brookville and they have two shows every year one in June and one in October and the shows are the third weekend of the month the best time to be there is from Thursday through Saturday. You don’t need luck you need a pocket full of money.

@@yt650 That seems really simple. Funds are not the problem. Being a picky buyer had its down side which is the problem. What book would you recommend to see some pictures of engines made would really help. Thanks again Janet.

@Victory First I posted some comments but they seem to have disappeared so I’ll do it again. There is an excellent book by CH Wendell, American gasoline engines since 1872. Don’t let the title fool you. Your best bet to get one of these out of circulation books is probably eBay or an engine show and don’t be surprised if they are in excess of $125. My personal advice would be if you are looking to buy an engine buy an engine that is complete not one that needs a bunch of parts because you’re end up spending a lot more money trying to fix up something that has parts that you don’t know about. CH Wendell was a friend of the Coolspring power Museum. He is deceased and they did not re-print his book. If you can find someone who has knowledge about engines that can accompany you to look at various engines at a show that would be helpful. One thing I want to add about the book is that it covers more than gasoline engines. Another source of information is smokestack.com.

At two minutes and 50 seconds that engine started running away. It’s not a diesel engine either. It is an oil engine relies on a hot bulb to ignite the oil.

Hot bulb or glow plug, they are both diesel dipshit
@yt650
3 жыл бұрын
@roguesquatcher The glow plug that you’re referring to heats the incoming air to start a diesel engine, it is not operating while the engine is running. A hot bulb engine is designed so that the cast iron bulb was heated until red. When oil is sprayed against a hot bulb it ignites, it does not ignite from compression like a diesel engine does. Once the engine is running and up to temperature it makes enough of its own heat in the hot bulb to keep the engine running by atomizing the fuel in the hot bulb. The burner for the hot bulb can then be turned off or the temperature from the source reduced considerably. You are talking to someone who was a Director at an engine museum and we had a number of hot bulb engines. The Achilles’ heel of those engine was the hot bulb was made from cast-iron. They can only take so many cycles of being heated and cooled over the years before they crack and fail and there are no replacement parts available, one must make patterns and have them cast and machine a very expensive process.
