Do you have the N52 engine ? I’m having a weird rattling at idle in my 2010 X5 with the N52 engine.

I have a 2017 bmw m4 competition and it’s doesn’t have a fixing bow, there is nothing there right now, rattles like crazy, what am I supposed to buy? The whole actuator?

When you have a proper set of tools, you don't need the extra clearance. No need to drop the muffler hangers. No need to even touch the muffler at all. Get a set of combinations wrenches. Ratcheting combination wrenches are even better.

You still got this thing? N20/26 is the junkiest engine BMW has ever made. Bested only by the 3 cylinder rubbish known as the B36/38.

Would this work on my 2013 328i?

Just finished this on our 2013 328i. Not gonna lie…PAIN IN THE FRICKIN ARSE! I used a pivot head ratchet, didn’t need shallow head socket as someone else suggested, but it worked fine. 10mm bolts on mine. The two grooves for the spring do not line up though; you have to not only squeeze the clip but get some twist on it as well to get it into the actuator side groove. A guy in another video said he had the same problem. Open the spring out some then you can use the leverage from the actuator to torque it into place. Also, I set the heat plate in first; that thing’s also annoying. Still, saved what, $400 or whatever the stealership would’ve charged

What a genius. So would this be the sole cause of the common rattling exhaust issue in the 2 series? Or could the actual flap inside be rattling as well?

To everyone who has rattling even with bow in: Just pop the bow out and bend the bow out to make it wider before purchasing a new one. Valves need tension in two ways to keep them closed (one: in direction from actuator TO valve, second: in direction of closing the valve). PS: You don't need to remove actuators or anything to pop the bow out.

Thank you for all your helpful hints but you still didn't show how the spring fits into the piece!? You mentioned having a hard time with it till you figured you had to pince it and to make sure it doesn't freeze up ???!?! You showed what bolts to remove but not the actual spring replacement???

Wow!! I feel like even saying thank you wouldn’t be enough lol! I have the early stages of this problem on my 2017 bmw 340i. On startups I get the sound like coins in a washing machine but it usually dies down once the car heats up. Still, that bothers me because one of the best features of my car is the startup sound lol I went under there a few days ago and saw I do have the spring, but I guess it’s starting to lose tension. I plan to order the part online and do it myself one weekend. Seeing this video really helps a lot because I had an idea what to do before, but now I think I know EXACTLY how to go about this after watching this video. Appreciate the help, BROOKLYN STAND UP!!
