Came here to learn but read some comments and see the word stolen again. Not only untrue but in a world where people are so easily influenced, polirized and swayed, it is a very crappy way for young people to look at their situation. It creates victims and anger. Young people need to read and understand all of the advatages indiginois people have available to them and learn to levarge and appreciate. Stolen will only build barriers and no one from this generation had anyhting thing to do with the treaties. Stop saying stolen for the good of all of our children.

These land acknowledgements are stupid. It first of all is hypocritical because only white people are forced to do them & nonwhites are not. Second of all, which tribe do we acknowledge anyway because native Americans and Canadians stole land from each other not to mention many of them simply committed genocide against each other. Also, white person in America today ever stole land from the Natives & many white people’s ancestors today had nothing to do with colonization of America because many white people are Slavic immigrants who were actually themselves enslaved or had their own land stolen from them. If you want to do it yourself, fine, you can do that & expose yourself for who you are.

That was something Jordan Peterson said one time. The video had over 20 reasons for them, and you've shared one against. But your comparison has flaws. to steal typically means that something was owned. In this context settlers stole the usage of land. For your example, it's better compared to borrowing. It's like a friend saying, "hey, I know I still owe you $20". What's happening in Canadian culture currently is that treaties are very slowly being formed (mostly in BC). It's like we're figuring this out 25 cents at a time, not always for the positive. The other problem with your example is that you're thinking of things one-to-one (ie: one person stole from another), but they're not. It's millions of people who have inherited a situation, who don't have the power to change it, recognizing that the situation exists.

Next time you visit France, remember doing a land acknowledgement. The French people are living on land that was stolen by the genocidal maniac Julius Caesar who genocided native Celtic tribes and destroyed their culture. You can also contribute to decolonization efforts by not using the word "July" (since that month is named after a mass murderer). I suggest using the word "quintilis" since July was the 5th month of the Roman calender and that was the name used for that month ("quinque" means 5, just like "septem" means 7, "octo" means 8 etc.).👍

I think it's better to give the people of first nations equal opportunities to study at universities like uoft and ubc and better jobs and subsidise their living expenses if we really wanna support and acknowledge them. These land acknowledgement statements in reality doesn't do any good to them. It just looks like a show for some reason. I really stand for the first nations and want them to have the best life that they deserve not any useless land acknowledgement that doesn't remove their persecution and misery. It's like saying I stole your land and I acknowledge it and then proceed on doing whatever we are doing, but in the end what support are we giving them?

Right of conquest. I know most of you are simpletons so I will break it down to you the way you typically liked to be talked to, like a crying child. I’m Italian my wife is Greek. Do you think I should start every morning acknowledging that Romans subjugated Greeks for hundreds of years. How far back do we go to recognize your perceived disadvantages? Is it just the recent past? I guess I could ask the natives to acknowledge jeans, math, written language, saddles, stirrups, and plumbing. They can say thank you for bringing reason and justice and the Magna Carta Libertatum across the Atlantic. My family came to this country in the early 20th century from Italy. Were they part of this broken treaty? My wife’s father came here from Greece in the 70’s. Our grandfathers were called dagos, spicks and waps and were treated horribly by Canadians of all sorts, natives included. Do you want her immigrant father who suffered racism because he looked different, couldn’t speak English and still has an accent to acknowledge this “unseated land”? I don’t know what peace pipe you’re smoking but you’re high off your ass if I ever let my child take part in this ridiculous theatre or take part in your bigotry of low expectations. You were conquered! The British were playing nice by letting you think any of those treaties mattered. Grow up! Your passport doesnt say “unseated what ever made up land” on it it says Canada. Last time I checked it Canada was part of the Common-Wealth. Got an issue with treaties? Take it up with your Queen not immigrants to Canada from the 20th century. Do you see how identity politics doesn’t work because if you look long and hard enough there will always be someone more oppressed then you.
