It’s always nice to come across a fellow Karateka. Your style doesn’t matter as long you’re not breaking any rules. The judges will score the fight according to their ruleset regardless of your style. Keep in mind that if you decide to take a Sport Karate approach, the judges will likely be biased against you, considering the fact that this organization is predominantly Muay Thai. The guys who are competing in MT setting with competition TKD or comp Karate styles should stay in their sport. Idknow, that's my opinion. The MT dude should learn ahead of time that those styles have their front leg too exposed and should just blast away. Really his only way at winning it. With elusive type fighters, you have to find that weakness. Either body or leg.

Everyone’s goals are different. It depends on what your intentions are. Some people are perfectly fine where they are, whereas others want to test themselves and compete in different rulesets. Those who are taking the second route have to show creativity, adapt their style, and learn more skills for whatever ruleset they intend to compete in order to succeed. I’m curious about why you think that practitioners of their discipline should remain in their respective rulesets. It’s much easier said than done to follow a strategy and be successful with it, especially when it comes to combat sports. In this particular situation, the Muay Thai practitioner had difficulty coming up with a game plan to exploit his opponent’s game plan due to the dynamic style he was up against. You can know what you need to do all you want but if your opponent is simply better than you then there’s not much you can do in the moment.

There was no unnecessary movement. Unnecessary movement is movement that serves no purpose. Everything he did contributed to how the fight played out. In other words, the reason the opponent was apprehensive and hesitant the whole time was because he was constantly guessing whether or not he should throw something, which resulted in him missing or getting countered. All of this was simply the result of Christian’s preparation, dynamic movement, and very subtle feints that most spectators perceive as “unnecessary movement.” This ruleset only allowed for 16 oz gloves and traditional Muay Thai shin guards. Christian’s goal is to transition to amateur mma soon, so you can expect to see gloves that are lighter than 10 oz :)

What you saw was Sport Karate style movement adapted for this ruleset. When it comes to striking, Christian is equally skilled in both Muay Thai and Sport Karate (point fighting); this is necessary to make the style work. In fact, he’s more comfortable in a conventional fighting stance than his Sport Karate stance. The stance he uses depends on the type of opponent he’s fighting. Pure Sport Karate and Taekwondo athletes do not possess the ability to move efficiently or effectively for anything outside of their respected rulesets. I saw a Taekwondo athlete compete at this same tournament and he constantly got kneed in the clinch and leg kicked. It’s not as simple as hopping around and throwing side kicks and blitzes.

@@svnshineanon6437 First you said it’s “so fucking bad”, now you’re saying it “seems pretty good”, which is silly. Both fighters had the same experience level but the opponent couldn’t do much because of the dynamic skill set he was up against, hence why the fight was one-sided. Opponent and his corner thought it’d be an easy fight *because they had the same reasoning you have* but that was clearly not the case once they actually fought. That’s because things are much easier said than done. The purpose of IKF is to build up your skills and experience for full contact. The only way to win in IKF is to outclass your opponent without ko’ing them. If you can do that, then that’s a good indication you’ll be able to do well in full contact, where you’re allowed to ko. Too many people start off in full contact when they’re not ready.

@@martialartsworldwide00 it's so fucking bad for Muay Thai because better competition would obliterate his lead leg with calf kicks, oblique kicks, you also lower yourself opening up for head kicks. The reason he can get away with this is because he is fighting with scrubs. When I said "seems pretty good" I was referring to the fighter. He should go fight outside of point based no knockout muay thai. He spams that karate front side kick, any capable MT fighter is going to catch it or parry it, following up with some kick or combo, which is why the karate stance is bad in MT.

In this specific thread, you asked “why is this guy constantly trying to ko new fighters in point Muay Thai?”, to which I replied by saying that both of them were 2-0 going into the fight, and if he intended to get a knock out it would’ve happened. The only reason he didn’t is *BECAUSE* he knew it was against the rules in this ruleset. Ultimately, he was awarded the medal for winning decisively. It’s purely at the discretion of the IKF. IKF wouldn’t have given him the win if they didn’t think he deserved it. In fact, he was personally met with gratitude by the ringside officials after the fight :) It’s none of your business on what he should be doing because you don’t know his motives and unlike you, he’s improving each category his fighting skills by climbing the ladder via these different types of tournaments. @@TakeOffV05 Not even remotely the same thing. You clearly don’t understand what you’re watching. Christian’s opponent shot for a takedown off the leg grab after Christian held back on the kick to avoid knocking him out but Christian reversed it midway and ended up on top. It would’ve been a good takedown if the opponent succeeded. The opponent’s ACL became injured as a result of his own move backfiring and he evidently tapped out. What was Christian supposed to do?
