A lot of New Yorkers had a low opinion of the New York Journal-American, the daily paper where Dorothy Kilgallen’s column originated. They were not impressed by the Hearst Corporation. It owned the Journal-American. William Randolph Hearst died at age 88 in 1951, but for many, many years thereafter, New Yorkers and Californians talked about his instigation of the Spanish-American War, and they used that to demean everyone who was employed at his newspapers in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. Intellectuals who opposed United States involvement in Vietnam, starting in 1965, saw Hearst employees as anti-communist yellow journalists who were fixated on movie stars, high society figures and debutantes. Possibly, singer-songwriter Phil Ochs, who studied journalism at Ohio State University then moved to NYC, had a low opinion of the Hearst Corporation. Possibly, mind you. The Vietnam War continued for many years after Dorothy Kilgallen died, so one of the reasons New Yorkers kept badmouthing her memory was that they linked her with Hearst followers who supposedly supported President Nixon and his Vietnamization policy. Was Donald Trump one of them? Sadly, this backlash against Hearst hurt Dorothy’s memory. As late as 1976, the criminal prosecution of Patty Hearst caused even more people to consider her parents Republican snobs. Her dad, Randolph, had been publisher of the New York Journal-American, but in 1976 it had been gone for ten years, and Randolph’s long-ago workplace did not matter to people who followed the trial of his daughter who had robbed a Northern California bank. In the Northern California courtroom, Randolph’s wife Catherine came across as snooty and coldly detached from their daughter Patty. Events such as the United States losing its first war, to the amazement of the editors of Hearst’s San Francisco Examiner, and the brainwashing of Patty Hearst by left-wing radicals, made Hearst columnist Dorothy Kilgallen seem like a relic from a very long time ago. There were other reasons why she was forgotten, such as the disappearance of What’s My Line kinescope films, but surveillance video of that bank robbery, and its role in the downfall of the Hearst Corporation, were very important reasons for erasing Dorothy from American history.

Based on the comments here I can guess why Kerry Kollmar might not want to be in the public eye. Please focus on his message about the humane care of animals. Honestly folks, would you like everyone talking, and gossiping about your parents your whole life, wherever you went? Kerry Kollmar is obviously an adult now, and has a life and identity of his own. We aren't our parents, and don't constantly want to be reminded of the past when we are busy living in the present. Can't you have the decency to allow Kerry that? Kerry's message was about the care of animals. Few listened.

I think it's disrespectful to Dorothy to refer to her death as a "murder" as though it is a known fact. There is no evidence and no one can know for sure. All the speculation linking it to the Kennedy assassination blah, blah, blah proves nothing. It is just another conspiracy theory.

@Mark Blass If you are right, then it is disrespectful to everyone in the Windsor royal family, including Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, to say Jeffrey Epstein was murdered. It is just another conspiracy theory. Unless you witnessed Epstein procure underage girls for Prince Andrew, then you do not know what happened. Prince Edward is the father of underage children. They, too, are slighted when they find out that allegedly their uncle raped underage girls that allegedly had been procured by a crazy American man whose death was allegedly covered up by jail officials.

Since I’ve been watching “What’s My Line” I’ve learned all about Dorothy and then her life and murder. I went to find this video because it has been said that Kerry is not Richard’s son but that of Johnnie Ray. Richard also mysteriously died when all the children were teenagers. I have my own theories that his was murdered also but it has been said he committed suicide and he only died three days after he broke his shoulder in a fall. I think Dorothy’s fall and broken shoulder was domestic violence the year she died. I’ve looked at lots of videos of both men and he definitely looks and sounds like Johnnie Ray’s .

I'm surprised that the name of the shelter and reason for the interview is not mentioned in the video description. Kerry is talking about the Atlanta Humane Society Animal Shelter and the amazing job that they do taking care of dogs and cats who need homes and helping to find them good homes. (The interviewer introduces him as a volunteer for the "Atlanta Humane Society Dog Shelter," but he later confirms that the shelter also takes in and finds homes for cats and does an equally good job with them. The argument took place immediately before the live CBS telecast of February 28, 1965. What’s My Line, that is. Hairdresser Marc Sinclaire was at Dorothy’s home getting her ready for the telecast. Her daughter Jill burst in the dressing room and started cutting her down because of her relationship with Ron Pataky. Jill had moved away from her parents’ home a year-and-a-half earlier. Her getting married was the reason for the move.

@T Porchia Johnnie Ray said publicly that Oregon always would be his home even though he owned a house in Los Angeles. This is relevant to the issue of whether he could father a baby because : An Oregon native from the Willamette Valley grew up to become a nationally known politician. Among the offices to which he was elected was governor of Oregon. He fathered four children and remained married to the same woman for several decades. In 1989, gay rights activists marched outside the Oregon state capital building in Salem. They chanted that they believed this politician was a closeted gay and was opposing legislation for same-sex marriage. After the politician’s death in 2011, nobody said publicly anything untoward about his marriage or his private life. I wrote the politician a letter more than ten years before his death. I mentioned that Johnnie Ray had grown up in the Willamette Valley with an older sister who was the same age as the politician. I asked the politician if he had known anyone in the Ray family. He said no.

He really looks like Johnnie Ray, whom his mother, Dorothy Kilgallen, had an affair with at the time of his conception and birth. Both Dorothy and her husband, Richard (Dick) Kollmar, had dark hair. Kerry never did. His hair color was always considerably lighter than either one of them--but not Johnnie Ray's hair color. It matched. But it's not just his hair color that's the give away. His features also very closely resemble those of Johnnie Ray. It's also well known that at the time period of Kerry's birth, Dorothy and Dick had serious marital problems--which included not having sex. It's also well known that Dorothy and Johnnie were having sex during this time period. So if Dorothy and Dick didn't have sex during the time period of Kerry's birth (which, BTW, was 11 years after their last child), then how can Dick be Kerry's father? Of course, only DNA evidence would prove the truth of Kerry's parentage. But at this late date, it's a moot point anyway.
